Parking on private land

Hi everyone.

I recently had a parking ticket whilst going for a walk. It was issued by my local council. I parked inside double yellow lines in an entrance to a farm gate. The entrance is very wide so I wasn't impeding access to the gate and there is no pavement in this area at all. There are no signs indicating any parking restrictions.

I'm 99.9% sure the council don't own the land, what do I do next ???

Are you sure where you parked is not part of the highway?
