Is Apple Care worth it if I have home insurance that covers it?

I have recently purchased an Apple Mac Pro and I have a warranty of one year. I understand that you can extend the warranty by purchasing Apple Care Plus within six months of buying the device.

I am debating whether or not to buy this. I believe my home insurance covers me for accidental damage and therefore I am wandering if Apple Care Plus is worthwhile for me.

If you "believe" your home insurance does then you need to check whether it does or not. Whether you want to buy the Plus is up to you but make sure you read its T&Cs carefully before you buy:

With Apple Care, you take the item back to an Apple store. They confirm it's broken, they give you a new(ish) one there and then.

You claim on your insurance, they think about it a while, then they'll find a way not to pay out if they can, if they have too, then they might send you a new(ish) one at some point...

Insurance is all about risk over cost (you haven't stated cost) and the odds are always stacked in the insurance companies favour. That's why they have the biggest buildings in town. Unless the law/mortgage co requires it I don't insure it. Better to put the premiums in a savings account imo.

Apple Care also covers other things that are not covered by your home insurance.
Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.

Check with Apple that the period allowed for purchase of Apple Care Plus is 6 months. It does vary according to device but that sounds rather a long time. A Mac Pro is Apple's top of the line desktop machine and rather expensive. I'd definitely go for the Apple Care with one of those.
While your home insurance covers accidental damage, it certainly won't cover component failure. I've got an iPad Pro with Smart Folio Keyboard. The Keyboard failed 9 months after expiry of the Apple Care and they still replaced it FOC.

Well I could start on preloaded pricing for such 'FOC' items

You are comparing apples to oranges. One is insurance, the other is a warranty product.

At the very least AppleCare doesn't offer protection from loss/theft. While your home insurance is highly unlikely to offer hardware failure cover.

The appalling 1 year warranty for what is a very expensive product is the main reason for me to prefer other brands when it comes to Laptops (still Apple household when it comes to mobiles). just a couple of months ago I bought Dell XPS with 5 years next day on-site warranty about 1/3 cheaper than equivalent Mac.

Of course theres the other possible issues with Applecare.
You are at the mercy of Apple.
I watched a video the other day (damned if I can find it)where Apple declared a Macbook water damaged and refused repair offering only a new mobo at buyers cost. (under 1 year old)
Mac was opened by a repairer and showed no water damage. It was a chip on the board which is coded to the board. So repairer couldnt repair. Theres non SOS ports on the drives now so to even get their data they need to pay for the mobo
