O/S Daily Saturday 9 November 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Tru - sorry to hear your news, thinking of you all x

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH watching catchup tv, I'm now going for a shower and will get dressed as I'm working this morning. DS1 not home he stayed at a friends last night. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight I'm not sure, but I have pizzas and southern fried chicken - not sure if we will have those or something different.

Yesterday was a chilled day once I'd got the chores done I wanted.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning chums, although not a great morning for me, the expression Man Plans, God Laughs, could apply today.I was organised last night for a super day out today. Just leaving my DDs last night around five, thirty to go home and walking to my car i slipped on some leaves and went down went down with an almighty wallop, and ended up with DD in our local A & E. When we were eventually seen by two very nice Drs they decided after several X rays that I had a severe rotator cuff injury and had probably torn some muscles and probably ligaments as well. upshot was very strong pain killers, and lots of physio next week. I am totally grounded and just have to rest for a few days. Grrr I am not a patient patient at all, and I have so much to do.by no driving 9would be hard I must admit as i only have one are that works at the moment.DD brought me back to her house so I will be here kicking my heels for a few days.so my day out Christmas shopping has been postponed. Could have been worse I suppose, I also have the mother and father of all bruises on my left knee which is all colours of the rainbow at the moment. feeling rather fed up and cross with myself at the moment.I hate inactivity, but I suppose I can read. typing this out lefthanded is taking a month of sundays, so I may just lurk and read for awhile

hope everyones weekend is more productive than mine

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Brr it's a cold and frosty start today. Heating on to take the chill off.

Plans went awry yesterday! DD picked me up 8.30 on her way with the school run, with plans to do a grocery shop. Somehow we ended up Christmas shopping instead and no grocery shop happened!! Good job there was nothing I desperately needed! I got quite a few presents and was able to cross a few more people off my list. Still a way to go.

The Friday Tidy never happened either as I was home just in time to wash my hair in readiness for the hairdresser coming at 3.00! She was in scissor happy mode (she often is!) and this morning I resemble Pansy Potter with my hair stood up on end!

So today I have the Saturday Friday Tidy. This seems to be happening too much just lately and I hate cleaning on a Saturday but needs must!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need, Thinking of the poorlies, sad and MIA. Thoughts with TRU and I hope BABY SNOOZER continues to make good progress/ Take care all xx

Cross posting with JACKIE. Oh dear I am so sorry to hear your news. Fallen leaves are lethal when they get wet. Hope you are soon mobile and pain free again. xx

    Morning :hello:

Oh no JackieO I hope you recover quickly and aren't too sore xx

Thanks for your comments everyone xx You're all very lovely :D

Mr tru decided at the last moment not to go on his trip. I know everyone deals with things differently but I thought it was a bit odd, so was pleased when he said he wasn't going. Even though he drove me nuts talking about chillies and taking over the kitchen for the whole day :D
He rescued the last of his chillies from the garden, then started cooking, freezing, chopping and dehydrating them. He's very specific about how different types are stored, lol. I left the room, my eyes were watering a bit and I could taste the chillies, at one point my lips were burning a bit. I have no idea how people eat the super-hot ones, I can't even stand to be around them once they're cut open :D

We're going to pop round to FIL's house to pick up the paperwork this morning, I've been asked to contact Sky, etc. and cancel them. I don't think they'll talk to me, but BIL2 is a big worrier and will fret about it until it's done. So I decided to bring it all here for now, I'll go through it next week (thankfully it was sorted into order a couple of months ago), do what I can and leave notes for things that I can't. They'll have to be very specific notes, essays almost, otherwise BIL will be ringing me several times for details, lol.

I've put some washing on and cleaned the fridge. The carpets need de-furring but I'll wait for the others to wake up before I start doing noisy things. We have a nice frost this morning, perfect for a walk but Scamp is refusing to get out of bed :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Oh no JackieO, I'm so sorry to hear of your calamity. Thank goodness you were with your daughter and she is able to look after you for a little while. Sending you lots of healing thoughts xx

Tru, sending you loads of love on the passing of your FIL. I'm glad he went as he did surrounded with the people who loved him.

I have had a fairly good night waking up a couple of times to use the commode but managing fairly independently so that is a big improvement. Finally woke Steve just before 7am so he could get a good nights rest too. I am rewarded with a great big cup of tea which is lovely.

Today I am in a sort out mood so the living room is on my hit list. There are boxes and bags piled up in there that need to go plus a large Lakeland order I bought before I got ill which is for Christmas. I will need some willing volunteers but Lee and Phoebe are home today so I hope they feel like they will help. I have wrapping paper upstairs from last year so at least I can make a start.

Steve has requested an Indian takeaway for dinner tonight as he didn't get a special meal for his birthday last week. I certainly don't mind ordering it for him but I won't be partaking unless they have something on the menu that isn't cooked in oil. To be honest, it isn't my favourite anyway so I might ask Steve to put something in the slow cooker for me. I fancy Cuban beef again as that was delicious.

Well, I'm off to look online for some Christmas presents. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Good morning everyone.

Jackie - what a nightmare for you! I really hope you heal soon. Taking things easy for a while will do you good.

Dumpling - you sound so positive, we'll done.

Tru - I hope you can get the companies to deal with you. Most big organisations have dedicated teams for dealing with deceased clients.

TA. - the tidy up will soon be done, then you can enjoy the rest of your day.

My day will follow the normal pattern of shopping, setting the tea tray and then retiring to my room whilst DM's visitor is here. The new chair is very comfortable though I still can't sit too long before the pain starts.

Thoughts to our poorlies. Special hug to Jackie. Happy Saturday to all.
  • Good morning and thank you for the thread nmlc.

JackieO I'm sorry to hear about your fall, that sounds very nasty but could have been so much worse. Forced inactivity is the pits. Hope you feel better very soon.

Dumpling, lovely to hear from you.

We have had a hard frost and frozen leaves are falling outside, coming down with quite a crunch. The council was meant to be gritting last night and I'm curious about whether our road will have been gritted. Bus routes are usually gritted and we do have a little local service that runs along our road. It is an hourly service and I've used it only once so far, it was fun, like going out in a slightly bigger minibus. I know it doesn't run on Sunday and suspect possibly not on Saturday either so don't know if that means we don't get grit.

I will be working today so not much will get done in the house or garden as I'll be doing some preparatory work this morning and won't be back until after dark. Mr AOD will do the hunter-gathering at m*rrisons in a minute. He's having coffee first and has made me some tea. I think he might be waiting for some of the frost to looseN, hope it is not too icy.

Hope that everyone has as good a day as possible, tho king of you tru and of all if us who are struggling for whatever reason.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning , it seems ok here weatherwise - a bit foggy and there's frost on the car, but it's brightish and not raining.

Sorry to hear you've had a nasty fall Jackie, wet leaves are so treacherous/

Tru, I'm glad your Fil passed peacefully with the family around him. Thinking of you all.

Glad to hear from you Dumpling, bet you're pleased to be home.

I went to a friends last night and as I was walking up her drive my foot seemed to stub against something and I fell flat on my face. She had seen me coming and had gone to open the front door, to find me sitting on the drive!

There was blood streaming from a cut under my chin, and my glasses had really dug in at one side of my nose. They very kindly put a plaster under my chin, and made me sit down for a bit.

Any way now I've got one terrible black eye, and another one developing nicely. The bridge of my nose is blue, and I think that might turn black as well. What a mess - I didn't look wonderful to start with, but now I look terrible !!

I fell with my left hand under me so that's a bit tender and bruised but it's functioning.
How it happened I don't know - I wasn't hurrying, had sensible shoes on and was going up a slight incline ( and there weren't any wet leaves) My glasses will need adjusting, I think they are a bit twisted, but fortunately not broken, I have plastic lenses, and one is now a bit scratched.
This morning I feel a bit stiff, but a hot bath will help .I'd planned to go out, but with my face in such a mess I don't know what to do.

Anyway, hope everyone has as good a day as they can.
    Take care folks
  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

Tru I'm sorry to hear about your fil, take care of your self.
Jackie ouch, I hope you are soon on the mend
Dumpling it's nice to hear you sounding positive.

I was MIA for a couple of days, Steve had his dismissal meeting on Wednesday eight people discussing what to do, it was exhausting and Steve found it very emotional. We could have done with a lazy day on Thursday but the marina sluices gates weren't opened so after heavy rain the jetties were under water, we had to move the boat on to the service jetty as we had work done on it, we had no heating whilst the work was being done so we went to Aldi for shopping.
All the work was done on the boat in all about £800 and more work is booked in for later. We need a new flue for the woodburner and the grill under the hob can't be used until new parts are fitted. So no toast for a few weeks, there are no electricity sockets in the kitchen so no toaster.

I'm definitely planning a lazy day today.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Scarletribbons poor you as well as JackieO, I hope you feel less sore soon.

Hester that must have been really hard for you both.

Oh dear Jackie and Scarlet Ribbons I hope you both recover quickly from your falls.

Hester, at least it's done with and not hanging over his head any more.

Meanmarie, happy birthday to Mr Mean. I wish more people had to retake the test as they age, my MiL carried on driving long past the age she should. I hope I have the sense to stop when I'm no longer safe.

Baby no-name is still doing well, the infection markers have halved and he had his newborn check which had somehow been missed and is fine. They finally got a private room although they have to pay for it but it was so noisy in the ward Laura wasn't able to sleep. We're going to go down to see them today because we are going up to Yorkshire tomorrow for the week. I've told Laura that I can come back any time if she needs me.
