Why is it things always break when you're broke

  • Thanks for all of your replies, it seems we all have our times when nothing seems to go right.
Add one more thing - not broken but my Husband is on a Ship & has just found out he is on duty for Xmas:eek: I'm not going to worry though, because he may be able to swap, a lot of people onboard are Scottish & some say they prefer to be off for Hogmanay ( can't spell sorry ). Like you say not worth worrying about until it happens.
TV & Car are tip of the iceberg really, has been a bad year, bereavement etc & I just feel like each time something has happened, it could have been an excuse to give up on the debt reduction, but I haven't, nor will I with the encouragement from my friends on here, some of whom have probably got it a lot worse than me & just get on with it with it without complaining.
Thank You all for your support I'm going to stop feeling sorry for myself now:rolleyes:

  • Poor Kizzy, just look at how much debt you have paid off since February though. :j You are doing so well but it is annoying when you have a blip.

I can remember years ago getting an unexpected tax rebate of £360, we were so skint and it was a welcome surprise, I remember jumping up and down on the bed shrieking!

We banked it but the day the cheque cleared, the car had major problems. The repair bill was £350! I suppose you can look at it from the point of view that if we hadn't have had the rebate, we would really have been in a pickle but I felt so angry at the time!

It's so unfair, expecially at this time of year. xx

  • Do you know what, I don't know what I would do if it weren't for this site, everyone supports each other, everyones problems are on different levels yet we are all the same:p desperate to be debt free.
Sometimes all you need is someone to listen & understand your situation & I know sometimes I reply to other people, not being able to help with thier problem, but hopefully to let them know that I know how they are feeling & although I may not feel as desperate as they do at that moment I have had times when I feel the same.
There are some extremely strong & brave people on here, who through no fault of thier own, or after a moment of mad spending ( hey we're all human ) have got themselves into problems. It's nice to know there are people looking out for each other, trying to make sure that you don't make the same mistakes as them.
Sorry a bit sloppy, but feel really touched by everyone's responses & hoping things get better for them too:D

    Awww, hugs.

I know it won't help with your car, but don't forget freecycle when the other stuff goes bang. I have freecycled some good but no longer useful to me things myself, and received a lovely music centre for my friends son....
  • I have re-read your post and missed the bit about hubbies contract. I am a great believer in fate and sometimes these things come along to give us a kick up the backside and we find it motivates us to reach higher.

I have been made redundant a couple of times, at the time it was the end of the world and I couldn't even see how I would put the next meal on the table. Once I even lived off cereal for a month! However, each time it has led onto bigger and better things and when I look back it was like a stepping stone to where I have got to now - good career, fairly well paid and secure.

Don't be despondent, July is months away and a lot can happen between now and then. I often look to the future and tie myself in knots. Like an earlier poster said, take each day as it comes, to have paid off nearly £7 of debt in 10 months really is a great achievement and you should be proud of yourself!

but there is also a certain inevitability to these things going wrong. If you are in debt, or only have a balance of income and expenditure, you tend to keep using things long after a person with more money would have replaced them. At the moment both me and OH have got to the NEED knew clothes scenario and it is amazing how much ordinary things cost new. Will be sticking to good old ebay!

  • Thanks Squirrel & Chevalier, I'm sure things will come good in the end.
I know what you mean about clothes & things, I haven't bought myself any clothes for months & they were from Primark as I had nothing for the summer & was a nearly a stone heavier.
I have now started wearing stuff that had got too small as tightening the purse strings has meant, no takeaways & also with the grief of losing my Mum meant I did lose weight, even though I ate still ( strange )
I've got some great news anyway, I overreacted:embarasse I've just picked the car up from the garage & they only had to charge the battery, charged me £10 ( even peeved about that, not at them, but green flag, who came out with the most ancient taped together jump leads I've ever seen:rotfl: ) Had my Hubby been home, he could've taken the battery off & charged it, but never mind, could've been a lot, lot worse
    Thanks again everyone :A
