GPO concrete marker post (Openreach)

Will this new route into a parking place for your car come from a public road, and will you need a dropped kerb?
Yes we would enter on to the drive way from a public road. We are at the end of a small cul-de-sac and no one else comes down the road unless they are lost. No need to drop the kerb as it as already been done (not by us) and wide enough for what we need.0 -

Good news. If you don't need to apply for a dropped kerb and permission to access the road would be a formality, you can go ahead without alerting Highways, who tend to be thorough and know where all the services lie, for obvious reasons.
That is good to know. I am going to carefully remove it and re position the post 2m from where it is now. I may add markings (which are currently missing) to help show that it will be 2m to the right of where it was located before. Given Openreach didn't have any information regarding the site and if they are ever called out they will have to do the survey anyway and will be able to easily locate the post.0 -
If you plan to remove it then I would suggest you dont re-site it
It's one thing to be able to claim "what post?" when it's missing but another to explain who/what/why it's been moved.
If they want to find their cable they'll manage just fine without it.
Back when that post was needed we didn't have the sort of cable detectors we have now. Every openreach van has one. You can buy them in screwfix...
I'll even wager they might use the post to get an idea but they'll still use the detector before digging to verify.0 -

They are designed to be hard to remove and are a lot wider below ground than above.
An angle grinder at ground level or just below ground level would do the job.
Those posts are more or less redundant these days so you are doing no real harm by chopping it off.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
Thanks. When I say "I" what I mean is I am going to get someone professional to do it for me. Given I am driving a car over it I want to make sure the ground is flat and safe... My efforts probably wouldn't be0

Oh yeah, my phone must have remembered my other log in while my laptop has my usual one. My email account got locked our last year so I made a temporary one. Forgot I had it!0

Just remove it yourself. BT won't even notice and I doubt they are used or even required anymore. The fact the one in the photo you showed has the the distance numbers missing shows it all really.0

"Below ground level the marker bells out sideways to prevent it being pulled out."I'd dig it out, it won't be that big underground. Cutting it will attract a lot of attention and be messy. I bet it's got SRC rods inside it.
