Electrician sent by letting agent didn't turn up at arranged time

Options
Been waiting in and taken day off work for electrician sent by letting agent to come do an electrical safety inspection. Arranged day and time (am/pm) by text message directly with the electrician. They've just not turned up. Wouldn't be so bad if they sent a message.

Funny how the letting agent can charge silly money if you're not in for an inspection (which only takes them 5 minutes to look around). Guessing if I ask for money for my wasted time it will fall on deaf ears and they'll expect me to arrange another date and be in for that.

What's even more annoying is that the electrical inspection has been done previously, and they seem to have lost the paperwork so have to do it again. Looks like something that should have been 1 day is going to turn into 3 of my days.

Is there anything I can do or do I have to grin and bear it? I'm concerned if I try enforce rights letting agent might be more inclined to put rent up more or issue s21 notice.

This happens to homeowners too. We take time off work, and various trades people don't show.

Luckily, as a tenant, you can do something about it. You don't have to be there for the electrical safety inspection. Tell the agent they can let the electrician in. It's not your responsibility to do the inspection. That falls on the landlord and their agent. In my mind, the agent should do it. Opening doors with keys is unskilled labour afterall. Right up their street.

If you have been texting the sparky can you not ring him and ask him where he is.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

Which is great unless people do what most seem to recommend people do and change the locks so the agent will not have keys!

Change it back for the day (since people are also recommended to keep the old lock)

If a tradesman did that to me I'd repay them the favour
But I'm a pure DIYer so it's never happened

Electrical safety inspection is going to cost about £160 plus letting agents mark up.
Has to be done every 5/10 years for rental properties.
At least you will know the electrics are safe.
Electricians can earn £70,000 a year so probably on a better paid job
