Is it possible to change to a cheaper 02 tariff??

I really need to lower my payments. I currently pay £30 but want to change to the cheapest tariff which is £20. Ideally I would like to give it back and go pay as you go; however, since I signed up to an 18 month contract back in June there is not much chance of that happening.
Has anyone had any luck reducing their tariff? Would explaining that I’m now on a DMP help??
Any advice/experience appreciated.

You can change to a lower tariff just by phoning them up - I did it a couple of months ago....may take a couple of months & changes to get down to £20 from £30. Shouldn't need to explain why - I certainly wasn't asked.0

I'm sure when i took out the contract they said i can reduce it but i need to wait 9 months. I think i will phone and see. My last bill was about £46 cos they now charge you for any 0845, 0870 numbers.0

My son changes his every other month sweetie-pie.
He keeps an eye on all the tariffs and if he sees a better one than he's get he rings up O2 and asks for it.
They've never said no yet...:D

PS I gave up my mobile phone back when I was in the middle of a contract. I told them that I'd been paying the bill with credit and the credit had now run out so I was probably going to have to declare bankruptcy, but in the meantime I'd be sending them a £1 a month until it was all sorted out as advised by my debt agency.
They let me out of my contract rather than have me run up debts they'd never see the money for.
PPS £20 isn't the cheapest tariff that they do on contract - but it may be the cheapest one that they advertise.Tell them you can't afford to pay for it and you want to give the phone back and see what they offer you.

There is a little known tariff available on 02 for £15 just ring them and ask for the smallest monthly payment you can have. Explain that your budget is extremely tight and see what they come up with.:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j0

Incidentally, if you don't want to take photo's there is an even less known tariff called "line advance". You pay in advance for the following years basic use, and then just add on any "bundles" that you want. It's £99 per year for 600 free off peak minutes per year BUT if you don't want a phone update they give you a discount. Dh keeps his phone and pays roughly £23 per year for his free minutes, texts are extra....but I have had a text bundle before for £3 p/mth for 50 texts, which would make 600 off peak minutes and 50 texts for about £60 per year?0

hi
I work for o2 and the new rule that has come in is that customer's cannot lower their tariff in the first 9 months of new contract/upgrade and even then only to the next lowest tariff ie from £30 to t£25.
Cranky we no longer offer the line advance tariff, customer's who are already on it can stay on it but we cannot change anybody who is not on this tariff onto it, it is not on the systems anymoreThe only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

Yeah thats what i thought0 -
after you have are 9mths into upgrade you can downgrade only to next tariff down but each month after that you can keep going down to the next tariff until you are at the lowest, so you can change your tariff every month if you need to once you have got past your initial 9mthsThe only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

Has anybody got any similar advice for Orange, I stupidly signed up for an 18 month contract @ £35/month back in July and it's just proving too expensive, the carrot was the latest N95 phone, which I didn't really need! This, coupled with recently having the phone stolen, free 3 months insurance just expired and having to take out Orange Care to get a new one at a preferential rate, has really kippered me!
They have sent me an automated letter advising me that they will review my usage after 6 months to see if i'm on the best plan, needless to say the contract will be cancelled when it's up, but is there anything I can do before then?
