O/S Daily Friday 8 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was chicken and leek pie, chips, peas and gravy for the menfolk. I had a mushroom parcel, with LO mash, veg and gravy. Tonight will be something quick and easy.
This morning I'll be heading to the SM first thing, I then have the dentist - so have to travel to next town for this so need to be getting myself moving otherwise I'll be late.
Once that's done the rest of the day is my own, so I'll come home and just get stuff done at my own pace.
Keep safe and well x

FIL died yesterday at just gone 5pm. It was very peaceful, he was holding BIL2's hand and just went in his sleep. His three boys and his sister stayed with him for around an hour, I was half expecting them to come here so I was ready for that but everyone just wanted to go home. The mini-mes were at work, they were meeting at the hospital at 6pm to visit him and I didn't want them to walk in and find out then, so I rang them. I would've jumped on the bus and met them outside the hospital but I wouldn't have got there before them. I didn't want to tell them over the phone but I felt like I had no choice, they were OK about it and told me not to be silly.
A few people, including mr tru, were going away for the weekend. The trip had been put on hold because we weren't sure what was happening, but they've now decided to go ahead. It's either a very good idea, or a very bad one, I'm not sure which!
It's supposed to be frosty this morning but we have heavy rain. I was looking forward to wrapping up and going for a long walk but it'll have to be a wet and muddy shorter walk insteadIt's a bit of a relief to know that I can potter about today and not expect to have to leave at a moment's notice, or have any panicky phone calls. I've been dressed in my tidy go-out clothes lately, today I'm going to wear my old, out-of-shape-but-oh-so-comfy jumper and put my feet up.

Morning All
Cold this morning, will have to scrape the car before I go to work.
Washing on the rack, spilled something down my dressing gown so that's in too. Need it back later so I can cosy in tonight.
How's the baby Snoozer? Hope all's well. Little Sophie had her first vaccinations yesterday, I think DD was worse than the baby! She had a bit of a fever last night, just waiting to hear how she is this morning.
Hope your neck is better Specky.
Not long now Gers.
The sewing event at the Guides was cancelled thank goodness, I'm suffering from a blocked up tummy so really wasn't in the mood!
Thank goodness it's Friday. Take care. XX
Sorry to hear of your FILs passing tru, big hugs to you all.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. All is calm outside after yesterday's heavy rain. We even have some sun forecast!
Yesterday's debacle of getting the entire contents of the awning inside the caravan was the ordeal it always is. Just the big tv and stand to go in but we are leaving that for DD's bf. Then the carpet can come up and the awning can come down! Serious talks are underway between us about getting rid of the tourer (which never tours as it "lives" there all year round) and investing in a static. As usual it all boils down to money!
The shopping didn't get done yesterday so that is to do today. Then I have the hairdresser coming this afternoon which means the Friday Tidy will get done in fits and starts - unless I decide to leave it until tomorrow!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies or sad. Thinking of TRU and family and hoping SNOOZER's baby GS is on the mend, Take care all xx
Editing to say I'm sorry TRU but pleased FIL went peacefully with his family round him. x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
A Peter Storm waterproof Jacket for ds2 £9.99 looked online rrp around £50 so pleased as was in very good condition
Oops posted on wrong thread.
Morning everyone I’ve been reading along. RL getting in the way. Ds2 is very low at the moment after returning from working abroad for the summer. He has been trying to get work for over a month, all that’s offered is temporary work. His dad doesn’t seem interested apart from taking his board money. He still wants to be up north and I just wish he would come back down to me.
Snoozer - hope dgs is soon home.
Tru - sorry to hear that Fil has passed away, glad that he was surrounded by family.
Dumpling - thinking of you, hope you are improving each day.
Gers- hope the op goes well0 -
Morning all
Brrrr cold here this morning with a frost I think, off to work for me but its so nearly the weekend !
Curry and rice for dinner with some chicken and some sauce etc left over from last tome we had a takeaway so im looking forward to that. Oh is taking the day off as his back is very painful, so he might even prep the dinner he makes a lovely curry and bombay potatoes.
Will do a wash tonight which will go in the TD. I also need to phone the Dr today as I have not heard from him re my Jab on Monday so need to chase that up.
Tru I am so sorry about FIL the end sounded quite peaceful though xx
Have good days all xx.0 -
Good morning everyone.
Condolences to Tru and family. What a peaceful way to go.
My pre-op assessment was very thorough and very good. Lots of forms filled in and lots of blood taken. At the end the physios talked me through the exercise regime.
On the way home I realised that there weren't any suitable chairs in DM's place. I was going to a MS food hall at the time, luckily it has a HSL place next door and, even more luckily, it has a stock clearance sale on as it's being refurbished. One less than half price 'fireside' chair is arriving this afternoon! Not really something I'd normally have but needs must.
This morning I have a hair appointment then the domiciliary dentist is coming to give DM a scale and polish (if she's better) and I'm expecting a delivery and the chair. Apart from that it'll be a quiet day. :rotfl::rotfl:
TA - what a palaver! At least it's almost done for another year.
Camelot - I hope that DD and Sophie are soon back to normal.
Thoughts are with our missing and poorlies. Happy Friday to all.0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Cold here but clear so far, perhaps I can get some washing dry.
Tru, sorry to hear of your FIL's death. I'm glad that it was a peaceful death.
Thinking of you all.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Happy Friday!
What did I do yesterday...I got my haircut at lunch then after work I filled up in petrol and bought a snack for the road back up to Glasgow, but I ate it watching the football. Was in bed for 10ish but had a poor sleep as my neck pain was waking me up.
So, got up early to have breakfast and finish packing. Went to the gym but spent 45 minutes just doing stretches for my knee and neck, and it feels better already. Got to leave work sharp today to get up the road for dinner at 7 with my mates then a game of bowling afterwards - can't wait.
Need to organise a day with E.on to get my smart meter installed, that's on the to do list at some point. Although, come to think of it, I am going to do a comparison to see if I can save. I'm currently £52 fixed for gas and electric, is that good or bad for 1 person?
Tru - Sorry to hear that. It's sounds like you've been an immense help to the family, too.0 -
Tru, I'm sorry for your loss.
Thanks for all the good wishes for dgs no-name. We went down to meet him yesterday and he's gorgeous. Unfortunately they came round to say his infection markers are still too high so they want to keep them in till he's had 5 days of antibiotics. Oh well, they seem to be working because his temp etc are all normal and he's growing more alert. Laura's working really hard to get the feeding going and is starting to have a bit of success, he wasn't interested at all on Wednesday. All in all things are going in the right direction so hopefully he'll be home on Monday and they can settle as a little family. I had lots of lovely cuddles.
I'm tired today so I'll probably have a quiet day.0 -
Morning
Popping in to pass my condolences to Tru and family x
Off today so going to get some house stuff done then I dont have to spend the weekend drowning in Mr Muscle (I wish)
Nothing particular exciting happening here just work and mum as usual. Mum is OK but getting very forgetful now I had a few phone calls this week asking what day it is and what day are are we shopping despite it being the day after a visit. She can be very aggressive at times and its difficult when I am working but I know its not her intent so chewing my cheek has become the norm now
The bean can Christmas cakes are a massive success so they are now resting and just need feeding every other Sunday. Highly recommend James Martin recipe.
Shepards pie with cabbage and leeks for dinner tonight then working in my volunteer job later.
Gers I had to create a suitable chair by building up an existing with cushions to get it high enough. It was only for a few weeks so buying one was not an option for me! Sounds like you are all organised so I bet you just want it here and over with now.
First wash done so better move....have a great day all0
