Energy Ombudsman Not Implementing Remedies

Anyone know what to do in this situation?

I found a faq on the ombudsman's site that says something like let us know if the company hasn't implemented the remedies which it says can be done by logging into your case. I did that and it said the case is "closed - resolved". Another tick for the ombudsman whereas in fact not a single one of the five remedies have been implemented.

There is a message facility within the case and I have tried to contact them but no response as of yet (a week ago) and given the case is "closed" I'm not sure my message will go anyway.

If anyone has successfully got the Ombudsman to respond at this point (even if that meant taking your own legal action) I'd be very interested in hearing from you.

I've checked through all the FAQs on the website and I cannot find anything that mentions what you say it does.

The closest seems to be this:
8 If you accept the resolution, the provider has to comply.

Your provider is bound to the resolution if you choose to accept it. We have a specialist team on hand that works alongside providers to get the remedy implemented.

If your supplier hasn’t complied within reasonable time and you’ve chased them on the matter, you are free to enforce the resolution in court as the decision was legally binding.

I've had a look at your posting history Neil and you seem to know an awful lot about an awful lot of things and are often keen to point out where the original poster is wrong or what the poster has done wrong or what they should have done instead.

Many years ago, this forum was genuinely helpful in terms up linking up those who seek knowledge with those who posess said knowlege. Now it appears there are a handful of, how can I put it, know-it-alls who build up large post counts for some reason. So often these days, someone asks a question and it is jumped on by someone who doesn't really know much about the area.

I apologise sincerely if you do not fit into that category.
  • Have you tried phoning or emailing? The contact details are hidden away a bit but I managed to find them https://www.ombudsman-services.org/about-us/contact-us

I have never claimed to know it all, there is a big box at the top of the forum that says "this is an open forum, anyone can post, please exercise caution". Also on the FAQ pages it says "All info is the opinion of posters – it’s not our [MSEs'] view. ... Don't rely on information being accurate or complete. If you do, it's at your own risk. Please do your own research before acting."

A lot of the time people who post on forums with a problem it turns out the problem was with them all along. Usually not reading T&Cs, or not reading their electricity meters for years on end and then wondering why Leccy R Us has handed them a bill for £620 when the meter does finally get a look in. We're not here to say "diddums, did the nasty electricity man upset you" and tell them what they want to hear. That doesn't help anybody.

Of course writing strips all emotion out so it will lose its context particularly if you know you were joking with somebody when you wrote it but if they interpret it a different way, that's a logistical challenge with web forums and we are all guilty of this to one degree or another even when we don't mean to.
  • Neil don't take it personal, the OP once wanted to complain for the bank blocking it's card at 11:30pm due to potentially fraudulent activity, meaning he couldn't use it between then and 8am...

    "Yes everybody's posts are historic"

As Stewie suggested, give them a call.

With all of the suppliers going bust currently it might be that they're busier than usual and have a backlog of messages.

There might potentially be other people who have gone through the ombudsman who could comment in future to help further.
