Wrong Gas Meter=Wrong Readings

I have raised a complaint with BG, on behalf of my daughter, as a gas statement they have raised is totally inaccurate. Part of this statement says that the gas meter was changed (to the one that has always been there!) and quoting another meter number which they appear to have been billing on.

My question is how do I find out what address this rogue meter belongs to?

You won't be able to find out what address a specific meter is located at. Your best bet is to raise a formal complaint with BG (clearly marked as such) and include a clear photograph of the current meter - It should have a label on it showing installation date plus some additional info that may prove useful at some point. Also make sure BG are billing for the correct units. Old meters measured in cubic feet, and modern ones, cubic meters.

I'm currently in dispute over my meter - It had been replaced for a smart meter, supplier started billing using new meter details, then reverted to estimated readings based on the old meter (and always using cubic feet). Gas supply has been switched, but the new supplier has the old meter details <grrr>.... Photo of meter supplied, hopefully they can sort out the mess before Xmas.

Thanks for this. I thought it was a longshot but wanted to check.

I only got involved because my daughter couldn't understand why BG had changed from wanting to refund her £1400 to refunding her £950!

The account is a complete shambles and she has been allegedly using more units for her gas cooker and gas fire, in a very small one bedroom flat (no CH), and they are out at work all day, than I use for cooking, hot water and central heating in a three bedroom semi and I'm retired and at home all day!

The property was bought in 1999 and the gas meter has never been changed--in fact the kitchen unit appears to have been built around it!

My daughter had been dealing with customer services--I have now raised a formal complaint with BG (my name is still on the account from when my late husband and I bought the flat and set up the utilities).

Are you certain that the gas is only being used by your daughters flat and not someone elses ?
