I recently bought a relatively cheap projector from Amazon (link), paid around £150.
The 1080p image is really good, brightness so and so, but given that I plan to use it in a relatively dark room, it doesn't bother me. However, what I did notice is that the video is not smooth when there are fast-moving scenes. Another 720p projector I tried (even cheaper than this) didn't have this problem, but the quality of the picture was obviously worse.
Is this something I have to live with, given how cheap the projector is, or are there other good alternatives with a similar price tag?

I have found that more expensive doesn't always translate to less lag.
I have an old dell 4220 that has a pretty weak picture but no lag atall, and a very expensive NEC that although has a superb bright crystal clear picture, is terrible for lag over HDMI ..
What device are you using to project ? are the drivers up to date ?
And what interface are you using , is it HDMI ?
Only thing I can suggest is pretty obvious and that is to look at all the reviews from people who are using the device the same way as you want to - see what they think ..
I do appreciate that its pretty difficult, particularly at the cheap end of the market, due to the millions of cheap Chinese clones, which are basically toys rather than tools0 -
Thanks, I actually used my Chromecast, so HDMI. To be honest, I haven't tried from a laptop yet, so maybe that's the next step.
Reviews are excellent, if you click on the link, but I think at the end of the day it all depends on what you expect from the device.
I literally spent two hours yesterday with the 720p projector, smooth but not-so-great picture, side by side with this 1080 (that eventually I decided to keep), with a really good picture, but not so smooth.
I did check with the supplier who gave me an updated firmware, I spent some time trying to be clever disassembling it (the firmware) but I miserably failed.
So I guess I'll just keep it for the time being, I'm not prepared to spend hundreds of pounds more for a better quality brand.0 -
Can you take the chromecast out of the equation so you are testing like for like - at the minute you are running one test with chromecast at 720 and another with it at 1080 - for all you know it could be the chromecast causing the issue.0
