Also if we cancel the direct debit today will that affect any claims in the future?
If your friend cancels the Direct Debit without first cancelling the insurance itself then the Direct Debit will continue to be requested and he/she will then be in debt.

As others have pointed out, your friend won't be refunded any money unless he/she can somehow show the insurance was mis-sold. It was not up to Carphone Warehouse to cancel the insurance unless your friend actually requested it. Why on earth has she/he continued to pay for an insurance policy which was no longer suitable or required for years?

Aside from this policy, what else might your friend be paying for unnecessarily? I strongly recommend a thorough health check of bank statements and scrutiny of all direct debits...

Hi, first off I want to apologize if this is in the wrong section. Mods please move if it is.

I have recently read that Carphone Warehouse have been made to pay back people regarding mis sold insurance. I have been paying them through direct debit since 2009 for items that have been gone for a long time. Is it possible to claim any of this money back? To me it has been free money to them. Any help is really appreciated.

    Thank you.

"I have been paying them through direct debit since 2009 for items that have been gone for a long time"............your friend must have more money than sense if they haven't noticed/checked bank account
As others have said its up to you to cancel the insurance once you get rid/chuck out item
