Want to switch current account but have mortgage with current bank

I’m looking to switch my bank account (never done so before so not sure how the process will be) and I have a mortgage with my current bank (Halifax), although the mortgage is being paid by my husband as I no longer work.
Would anyone know whether switching will affect it when my mortgage deal is up for renewal?

Unless your mortgage terms state that you must have a current account with Halifax, there is nothing to stop you from switching.

If your objective is to bag a switch bonus, you could set up a second current account and switch that one.

As above, you will need to check your contract to see if maintaining a current account is a condition of your mortgage. If not, you have free reign to switch away.

The switching process is very simple - you simply open a new account with another bank and then provide them with details of your old account. The new bank will facilitate everything and in the unlikely event that something goes wrong they will sort it out and refund any fees (if applicable). The process is different from bank to bank but they all operate mostly in the same way. See more on CASS here: https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx

Are you still stuck in Hong Kong with no credit card?

It would be courteous to update, or at least acknowledge suggestions made here :)

  • Sorry, I have replied back to that thread now. MSE hadn’t emailed me (as it usually does) when I got a reply so I assumed nobody replied back to it.
