DWP Debt and management

Hi, I got into debt with universal credit and owed them £1500.
I was away for numerous weeks and never seen any letter and never accessed my emails l, I came home last week and seen letters from UC and DWP with then saying “they have deducted money from my pay and will do until this is paid back” as I blanked letters.
I never seen the letters as I was away and I’m paying them far to much out of my monthly payment from work, I was wondering if I could reduce the payments monthly as I cannot afford it and pay out too much anyway a month?
I hope someone can help thanks and direct me the right way!:)

You will need to contact them and ask them to reduce the amount taken due to financial hardship.as I blanked letters.
Is your blanking and financial hardship related to a wider issue of income and debt? If so then it may be worth having a discussion about it with a debt charity. They may even be able to seek a reduction for you but it would need to be within the wider issue of a confirmed Statement of Accounts (SOA)
Here is an example of an SOA
