I received a bill 10 months after switching - should I pay

Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice on a bill I received from Angelic energy last week. I switched from them at the end of last year and believed everything was settled only to be surprised by a final demand to pay an amount they believe is unpaid. The problem I have is that is it is based on an estimated reading for both gas and electricity, from when I switched to them.

I called the Angelic collections team who explained that it is standard industry practise to use estimates in that way and therefore it all averages out. I switched to them via Flipper, so I'm pretty sure I provided readings at the time. I'm not convinced by the explanation they gave but hoping that someone could give some advice before I push back. The whole thing feels like a scam.

Do I have to pay a bill that I've been sent after ten months based on estimated readings?

Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum.

If the estimated readings 10 months ago were incorrect you should have challenged them at the time - or at least when you got the first bill.

Those estimated 'start' readings should have been the same as the end readings for your previous supplier.

The bottom line is that you have to pay the bill, unless you can prove it is inaccurate.

If you think you supplied actual readings to someone when you moved to Angelic, can't you contact that someone and get the readings?

Or maybe you have a final bill from that someone that shows the actual readings - which must be the final readings from that supplier.

Or maybe Flipper can give you the readings (whatever that is).

It's a good idea to keep records of all this sort of thing (meter readings, bills, contracts etc) or, as you are finding, unexpected things can happen and it's a mess to sort out.
