So I took the cover off and looked at the “flow temperature adjustment screw" which was cranked up to a dead stop at max!! So with no markers or numbering, on a scale from 3 o’clock to 1 o’clock, I set it a 7 o’clock. Not sure what it should be as google references temperatures. Thanks.Tojo_Ralph wrote: »So with the heating better but still somewhat hot, I turned the boiler flow temp adjustment screw down a little bit more and will see where it goes. One thing I noticed is that with the heating on continuous and things a niceish temp, the boiler seems to come on for only maybe minutes every maybe 10 mins and there’s always a tricking sound from the boiler when it does. I assumed a boiler would sit idle longer. I took some pics of complete boiler and pipe work with cover off and will post when I get a moment. Thanks.
According to the manual the flow temperature is adjustable between 55° C to 78° C (± 5° C)
Unlikely that you need it on MAX.

I guess the issue is how I set a temperature without a graduated knob? So I went with checking the hot water temp. After screwing down to maybe 40% of dial range and with heating left on 24/7 the water temp levelled out at 46 Deg C at the tap nearest the boiler. So I have nudged the dial up a bit.
System photos will follow as I now have. One thing I notice is that the boiler seems to drain of a bit of water to outside drain quite a lot.The MSE Dictionary

See below images of Boiler and cupboard, A to F, top to bottom. The Boiler was installed by British Gas maybe 4 years ago following a complete meltdown of the old boiler.

You don't need to worry too much about the actual temperature setting, which is likely to be linear between the adjustment limits.
If it ranges between 55 - 78 then start with the uncalibrated adjuster screw half way at nine o'clock equals approx 67 degrees and then make fine adjustments from there.
It is normal for the condensate pipe (white plastic running diagonally underneath the boiler in picture D) to discharge water into a drain.
I am surprised that you do not have a room stat fitted.
TRV's typically have the following settings:
0 = Off
* = 7°C
1 = 10°C
2 = 15°C
3 = 20°C
4 = 25°C
5 = 30°C0 -

I have searched everywhere and not found a thermostat, but its a ground floor one up, one down, front and back door terraced granite ex council property built I am guessing in the 60s.
I reset the boiler screw to 50% as suggested and the radiators to halfway between 0 and frost as it was still a cosy 20 Degrees with heating on 24/7 and hot water tank TRV on frost. Being a granite property with double glazing I suspect it is reasonably well insulated. The never used back door is old school council wood but leads to a two door lobby and not externally, so I have draught excluded the door to the nth degree and popped up a thermal curtain. The Saga continues.

So I was in past yesterday to do some stuff and even with everything cranked down, it’s a toasty 22 Deg C. So having been off and me finished up doing some work, 2 Hrs on it was a toasty 21 Deg C. Plan now is to see what temps are like for a couple of days compared to outside temp without heating being on.
One thing I noticed is that the pipe that goes outside of the wall from the water tank above the hot water tank, has a very slow drip and clearly has had for a long time based on marks on external wall. Needless to say the ball valve thingy is not completely shut off. Then I looked ..... How in the name of Christ would you get to it without dismantelling it? The MSE Dictionary
