Costume help?

DS2 has brought home a letter from school asking for a clown costume for the Christmas play. The costume will only be needed about 4 times in total so I am not going to buy something special but has anyone got any ideas how to make one?I've googled but really don't have any ideas where to start with this one. (Why couldn't he have been a shepherd and only needed a tea-towel?)Sally

How about a bright coloured t-shirt, baggy oversized trousers, held up with jazzy braces (New Look have silver ones that would be ideal. Clown makeup, squirty flower and maybe a wig or bowler hat.
  • You can probably get a cheapo plastic hat & some face paint for just a couple of quid at a fancy dress store. Buy a cheap coloured t-shirt and maybe make some trousers out of coloured tea towels!

Failing that you can get costumes for about £7.50 off ebay; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHILDS-CLOWN-COSTUME-PATTERN-FANCY-DRESS-CARNIVAL_W0QQitemZ110188068566QQihZ001QQcategoryZ3119QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
  • What about if you have a hoop sewing it into a big pair of trousers, holding them up with braces and getting a white t shirt and you and your son decorating it will either drawn on big bright spots of sewing big bright spots on. You could go to a charity shop if you dont have any older children who's trousers would be bigger and matalan do really cheap white t shirts for a couple of pound. If you dont have a wig you could always buy some hair spray which has a colour in it and spray it on his hair. You could also make your own red nose if you didnt have one and decorate his face with face paints. I know when my ds comes home with a fancy dress request my first thought is oh no, but when you think about it, its awfull when parents dont really bother and the child is left with no or little costume. Thats why I always go out of my way to make a good costume cos they arnt young forever and to see them joining in with the class is worth it.
