Hello all,
First of all love this forum :j

Could someone point me in right direction

Just rented a house and I asked the estate agent when will they be removing the board
I was informed that they did not need to take it down and its good advertising

They also said the council said they can keep it up

I live in the Stoke on trent area I have asked the council to call back and ask if this is true

It's a little bit of a eye sore tbh and not only that I don't want anyone knocking the door asking to look around or if it's to rent :embarasse

Thanks for any help

Lee

There is a law governing this, which is the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisement) Regulations 2007.

Under Schedule 3, Part 1, Clause 3A(3) an advertising board must be removed within 14 days of the let being agreed:

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2007/783/schedule/3/part/1/made

Perhaps you should send exactly that to your letting agent and ask them to remove it?

They could be fined for breaching it, however enforcement is by the council so it would depend on how bothered yours is - but certainly they cannot have been given permission as such by the council for it to stay.

Or you could do what I did with the place we are renting and take the thing down yourself eventually, chop it up and bin it. They will never come back for it because it costs them more to arrange that service (usually they pay another company to do it) than the sign is worth.

Take it down, return it to their office. Preferably on a Saturday, use your special indoor voice

    They’d need a very large letterbox:rotfl:

Nope, you just need the correct tools...

Edit - Just re-read this and thought I'd add that I was talking about chopping up the sign, not picking the lock :)

I didn't read it as either - I thought you meant significantly enlarging the letterbox ;)
  • Take it down and
1 stick it up on the estate agents home
2 stick up on their shop
3 stick it up on a rival agents shop
4 stick it up on your local council office

    It's still good advertising!
