Towel radiator on when heating off

Hi,
I was wondering if any of you can shed light on this 'issue'

I've noticed recently that my towel rail (which has a thermostatic valve) stays warm (but not hot) when the heating is off, but the TRV is on 2 or 3.

I can't hear the boiler firing up. It's a combi boiler if that helps shed light.

Any ideas how or why? I've heard that some are linked to the hot water system - but when it's warm I haven't used any hot water.

I'd also quite like to know how energy efficient it is, and would it be expensive to keep the TRV on level 2 for example.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi. Does it have a wire leading to it?

As Coffeehound has suggested, it could well have an electrical element to allow use when the weather is warmer - what you want in a towel rail. If so, then no they aren't terribly cost effective due to the cost of electricity.

    Energy efficiency wise, it's exceptional.

Hi. Does it have a wire leading to it?

good question - I'll have to check once I'm home later
  • Do they heat up when your hot water comes on. Both my bathroom and en suite radiators do.

^^ Our towel rail heats up when the hot water cylinder is heated. House was built in 1960s and still has the original setup. Our previous house was 1970s and the bathroom and separate toilet radiators did the same.

I had a look - no wire. I tested oit last night with no hot water and no heating - it stayed cold. Then ran hot water - it stayed cold.

It came on with the heating so I guess it just holds it heat really well!
    Thanks for your help.
