Microwave ?

Hi is there any hope for my microwave. It's started crackling like when you put a cup in that has gold stuff round the edge but with any container. It's a large Breville one probably only about 3 years old. The thing is we use it instead of a normal oven etc . I either need to find out if it's worth sorting it or buying another one. I've contacted Breville but no reply . Thank you

  • Have you cleaned around the door seal? Are there any signs of electrical arcing around the door frame and the microwave where the door closes?

I wouldn't use it whilst it's got this fault. Leaking microwaves are extremely harmful.

Are you sure there isn't something metallic in the microwave? Like a piece of foil maybe, left over from a previous use? Have a good check - including under the turntable plate.

If you are absolutely sure there isn't anything there, I would stop using the oven. It doesn't sound safe.

Unless it's something obvious like dirt or a bit of tin foil, it's highly unlikely it will be worth repairing.

(You can have some fun though by putting it outside on a dry day and microwaving things such as CDs.)

Changing the wave guide cover sorted my Panasonic when this happened. They only cost a few quid and are easy to change. It might be that your microwave has been irreparably damaged, but worth trying this first.

  • Just use your oven and enjoy the extra counter space you have where the microwave was.
We've been without a microwave for 2 years and haven't missed it.

Agree with the above post. We have not had a microwave for about 12 years now and have not missed it at all.
