Barclaycard write off

So I called Barclaycard this morning to pay the minimum amount on my balance of £16. The operator said as I was a valued customer, and it was a small balance, they would write it off. Is this legit? Has it happened to anyone else?

It actually happens quite a lot to me !
From the various, different, cards I hold too !
Like you, it's small amounts but it appears on my statement as 'small balance write off'.0 -
I always pay in the app - will need to give this a go!0

It happens. Only costs them a small amount of money - makes you happy - which means you're more likely to stay with them, and you'll likely tell your friends and family about it, etc.0 -
Yes they tend to do this sporadically even for the good payers!0

I think they mean the minimum payment due on the balance was £16.
At least I hope so anyway...
Disagree because ofThe operator said as I was a valued customer, and it was a small balance, they would write it off.0 -

It will have been because it was less work to write it off, than actually make the payment for the customer..Life in the slow lane0 -
If the minimum payment was £16 the balance wouldn;t be all that small.
On my Barclaycard, the minimum payment is 1% of the outstanding balance.
Assuming the OP's card is the same, if the minimum payment was £16, the balance would be about £1,600.
I can't see them writing that off so readily.0 -
To OP.
We don't really know what the balance of your card is, £16 or £1600 or something in between.
Others have suggested that this may have been some sort of customer service goodwill gesture and that may well be the case.
However, something seems a little bit confused here so I would very strongly suggest that you urgently check your online banking just to make sure that the appropriate credit has in fact been applied to your account before the payment due date has passed. .0
