British Gas - Final Bill and Payment Plan

Hi guys

I recently moved house and for the past 11 years have been with British Gas and been paying my gas and electric by monthly standing order. In July they wanted to increase my monthly payments by an extra £200 per month which meant I would have been paying £400 a month. My bills have been extremely high for the past two years but despite complaining to them and keeping my use low I have never got anywhere with BG. Anyhow because I knew I was moving BG agreed that I could stop my monthly payments and when I received my final bills from them I could set up a monthly payment plan with them. Once I moved I contacted BG to agree a payment plan and to dispute my bills as they were far too high but it became impossible to get through to speak to anyone other than online. The people online said I had to speak to someone on the phone but I could never get to speak to anyone on the phone. I had to file a complaint in the end. I finally managed to speak to someone on the phone after a month and told them I wanted to pay something off my bills even though I was disputing them as I knew I had to pay something but they wouldn't let me pay anything as they said I was disputing my bills and if I do agree a repayment plan they will damage my credit file as it will show I didn't pay my final bills in full. So now I'm forced to pay in full in 10 days even though the bills aren't correct and they previously agreed I could pay the final bills off monthly otherwise they will damage my credit file. Just wondering what others experiences have been with BG as they are impossible to deal with.

How can you prove that the Bill's are wrong?

Do you have regular meter readings and opening and closing meter readings?

The correct bill should be based on what the meter said, unless you have some specific reason to believe the meter has a fault (in which case you should have reported it - it's too late now).

The monthly direct debit is based on what the supplier thinks you will use over the next year. There's no reason to think that estimate will be correct.

How much energy you think you have saved, and how much the monthly direct debits added up to isn't relevant. It's all down to meter readings.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
