We had a fault on our Phillips plasma tv the other day, lucky it was only a loose plug but as it is about 11/12 years old we do not expect it to last forever.I saw an advert for a new Oled tv on facebook the other day but everybody was slating Oled saying that you get screen burn out after two years and not warrantable.
Can the learned people on this site confirm if this is true and if so what is the best tv system to purchase, thanks.:)

Well my LG OLED is three years old now and has no screen burn but a few people (relative to the number of OLED's sold) have had problems with older models.
TBH if your plasma (which can suffer screen burn) hasn't suffered it's extremely unlikely that an OLED will suffer with similar use.

    For better advice I suggest a more-dedicated UK-based forum:
    https://www.avforums.com/

Specific threads on OLED screen burn are to be found in the OLED subforum:
    https://www.avforums.com/forums/oled-tvs-forum.232/

I was looking at possibly upgrading but in honesty there is so little difference in picture quality between this years OLEDs & mine that I decided not to bother.
The picture on similarly-priced LED screen doesn't come anywhere near as good as an OLED either IMHO.

Much more likely to get screen burn from plasma.

Also more likely to get backache if you ever have to lift the thing!

I dont have that problem but then I rarely watch normal tv anymore nor doo I use if for game playing. Its purely on to watch netflix/prime and sometimes youtube

Screen burn (as opposed to screen retention) was a bit of a lottery at one time.
However, LG have introduced technology to greatly reduce the chance of it.
They now dim the logos using 'Logo Luminance Adjustment' and better screen savers as well as a screen 'refresh' mode.
To be honest, no one who just uses their TV for normal viewing and doesn't pause anything for hours at a time, shouldn't have any problems using OLED.
Other considerations should be taken into account, like room brightness etc.
As Dee Best says, best go to AV forums and do some informed research before making any TV decision.

When I bought my LG oled the salesman showed me the first gen model alongside mine. He said that they saw screen burn in the showroom, but only because of the screensaver that LG used - and the fact that the TVs were on all day, every day, mostly with the screensaver displayed. The screensaver on mine has a sort of moving fireworks display, plus every so many weeks it has an automatic screen-refresh routine. No trace of any burn in on mine and it really is a glorious display - no regrets whatsoever.

I'm still using a 10 year old 1080p Pioneer Kuro plasma and don't experience any "wow" when I visit the TV section of John Lewis, even from the 4k OLEDs.
