Managed it thanks. Weird though. First it just found my Canon printer, then it found the pc, but wouldn't let me connect. Then, after a few attempts, it connected straight away, but said the folder was empty. The next time, I was asked for a username, and password, then it found the folder, but said it was empty. Finally, same procedure, it found the music folder, but also found my Logitech Media Server, so I tried that and, bingo. It's all there. Thanks again for all the advice.

Yeah, it seems that devices can be a bit slow in 'learning' shared drive information.

One minor problem. It only plays the first track I select. Doe's anyone know how I can make vlc play the whole folder, without creating a playlist? One folder, is like, one album, so I would want to play the whole album, without having to create a playlist.

It's looks like, for some reason, this method is hit and miss. Sometimes, VLC says it's connected using SMB, and I have to sign in, others, it's UPNP, where it finds Logitech Media Server, which I prefer. But then, a lot of the folders, VLC says, are empty directories, which I know isn't true. Perhaps this isn't the best method.
