Oil Fired Boiler

A bunded tank has the filling and vent openings accessed via a hinged lid on top or at the front and it's obvious they're part of an inner tank. Mine says 'bunded' on it too.
Shaded from the sun is good. Mine was too and may have been older than 10 years when replaced. The requirements for siting a new tank are in the link I gave you. Mine was up against the bungalow, so apart from being an eyesore, it had to move.0 -

So, another issue today.
We had a oil delivery, tank was down to about 100 litres, they put another 500 litres in and it wouldn't fire up.
I had turned the boiler off when the delivery driver pulled up and switched it on about an hour after he left. I have since learned via the internet that you should leave it off for longer.
The water trap next to the oil tank was full of black stuff, so drained that off but the boiler wouldn't fire.
I then bled the system at what I assume is the filter next to the boiler, it actually didn't seem to need bleeding as oil came out straight away, but still wouldn't fire.
I bled it again for good measure and then after 3-4 more attempts it fired up and is running OK now.
A neighbour reckons I might need a new oil tank as ours is old (no idea how old but certainly 10 years plus) and they fill up with stuff over time.
Do I need a new tank? They're how much fitted? I imagine not cheap!
Thanks again for any further advice, fairly new to this oil boiler stuff.
Iv know steel tanks that are still sound from WW2 likewise iv had them fail in 5 years, it all depends...…
However dirt in the system is not the tanks fault a plastic tank can become contaminated as much as a steel one.
One thing that has been rife in bulk tanks is diesel bug this year, and it can live in kero… It has created havoc for me this season in all manner of things and have some cracking pictures of clogged filters and sludge, however in your tank it could just be dirt.
Best way of dealing is to get the tank as empty as possible flush and clean treat with additive then fill, problem is in the winter its not a job you really want to do as your be without heat, best saved for the summer.
BTW tank should have a slope opposite way to the output has your got this on?0
