Hi
I'm beginning to feel guilty about using work printers to produce stuff for things I do out of work, so I'm looking to get a printer at home. I'll be printing A4 black and white and colour, mainly word docs - but I'm not really bothered about printing photos at all. The main thing is it needs to be pretty compact because our flat is tiny and there's little space! Unfortunately whenever I try searching for "compact printer" or "small printer" it just comes out with the compact 4x6 photo printers which is obviously unsuitable. Also all the printers just go on about how good they are at printing photos - again, this is not why I'm buying so I'm finding it hard to unearth the info I need!
I'd like it to be reasonably cheap but I'm willing to pay a little more to get a printer with a nice small footprint. An added bonus would be wireless-ness as I have a laptop rather than a pc.
Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks in advance!

the hp d1460 is very compact, vista ready. I live in Ipswich & the town centre post office sell them for £20 incl. cable. https://www.laskys.com/printers_and_peripherals/printing/printers/hp_d1460.html sell them.
smallest all-in-one is the hp f380 - £30inc post from https://www.amazon.co.uk with 2 small 5ml cartridges. excellent colour & bl&w print quality. no cable. vista ready.
you can always buy refillable cartridges for them.
you can buy a 3m "usb A male to usb A female" cable to use it 3m away if that saves space. I bought 2 of them but only needed one, so I now have one to sell(let me know)!0 -
Don't forget to check replacement ink prices.
e.g. Lexmark = Cheap, but expensive ink.
Recently people on here have been rating the Brother

Personally I have a Canon which has separate colour ink tanks, so no throwing away half full cartridges.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I'm with Spud17 here. You can't go wrong with a Canon. They always get good reviews for print quality and are one of the cheapest to run. Plus with model Pixma ip3300 you get dual paper trays, doublesided printing and printing on cd/dvd. Not bad for around £45.
Not the smallest but probably one of the best. imho0 -
I use an Epson DX4850. Scan print and photocopy all in one > From £30 see http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B000HVA40I/ref=dp_olp_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1196155182&sr=8-3"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
