I totally agree with your sentiments about good service over-riding the need to save a few pennies - or even pounds! That is why Ebico always get good reports from their customers, even if it is not the cheapest option for many.

BG have really 'shot themseves in the foot' with their poor service; mainly down to a joke of a computer system which the staff seem to have to depend upon.

My point is that a bad experience with a Utility company(any Utility Company) seems to generate unobjective, and inaccurate posts like the one early.

For sure(as all Grand Prix drivers seem to say) BG have poor service, but currently their prices are very competitive.

If you really do not like having your money in BG coffers, then you could set up whole bill DD and pay every quarter whatever the bill is [I do this with Ebico]

However you really do need to save the money in a high interest savings account ready to pay on the nose when DD is due

If budgeting is a problem, kids, Christmas etc then this may not be a sensible option for you, as bounced DD will incur fees from your bank [legal or otherwise]
