High Gas Usage?
Hello ... my first post so please don't be too harsh
I moved home just over a year ago (August 2018) and my gas usage seems to be a lot higher than in my last place, both 3 bed houses although the current one is detached rather than a semi like the last one and the shower runs off the boiler rather than being electric.
My reading taken today shows that I've used 230M3 of gas in 2 months (September & October) which seems to be quite high to me.
I work nights and my partner works evenings so there's only a few hours when I'm on shift between me leaving and my partner getting home where the house isn't occupied.
I've had the boiler service recently and the guy checked for leaks & faults but found nothing
The meter looks like it was replaced in January 2018 so I can't tell if this is normal usage for the house / boiler or not.
Any advise greatly appreciated

230 x11.2 (to get to kwh) x (say) 3p per unit = £77
Not high in my opinion.
Are both readings yours or was the earlier one estimated.
Give us your readings please ? It is likely that on Jan 2018 the reading was zero.
It's very easy to mis read new meters - check carefully for a decimal point.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Those two months amount to about 2561kWh.
Assuming that usage is average because neither is really summer or winter, that's roughly 15366kWh per annum.
You're between Medium (12000) and High (17000), so there's not much to worry about.0 -
There are far too many variables between houses to really compare useage.
For example we live in a 3 bed detached and in the same period September/October have used 700kwh gas compared to your 2560.
But we live in a super insulated new build with new high efficiency combi boiler and have an electric shower and both work 9-5 so are out of the house at the same time.0 -
Agree too many variables to make sensible comparisons, but we've used 400m3 during those two months in a 5 bed detached, with a mixture of underfloor heating & radiators and a very well insulated 300 litre hot tank. So you're doing OK.
You've gained an extra outside wall - that makes a lot of difference. What's the loft insulation like? Any drafts from external doors?
Is the hot water cylinder well insulated? Is it being kept heated 24/7 or on a timer?0 -
Gas usage Sep-Oct 2070kwh.
Large Solid-wall 3-bed semi. 15year old combi boiler. Gas CH, Run a bath every night during winter (Combi-powered shower in summer), Gas hob.
Heating 6am-9pm every day (to keep budgies warm).0 -

What do the budgies do between 9pm and 6am?0 -
I liberate them from their smugglers, that they may find freedom.0
