Lowell Sky Debt Help

Hello,

I am seeking some advice. I have been attempting to build my credit history with a view to applying for a mortgage in 2020.

I have received a letter from Lowell Financial requesting that I set a payment plan up for a Sky debt totaling £116.81. The Sky account number was provided.

The debt is several years old and the account was taken out on behalf of a family member who assured me the payments had been kept up and the account closed properly. It now seems that this was not the case.

I frequently check my credit file and there have been no defaults issued by Sky, nor any accounts with Sky. A bit of background reading showed that Sky do not report to Credit File Agencies. I am able to comfortably pay this debt in full immediately, however, do not want a default to be added to me Credit File.

My questions are:
1. Will Lowell add a 'settled' default to my account upon my full payment, if Sky have not already defaulted?
2. What would be the best way the go about payment? In writing or by simply phoning Lowell to pay?
3. Are there any templates I can use if in writing is the best option?

I am trying to sort this out as soon as possible and tackle it head on with the best possible outcome for my Credit File. I am willing to simply pay the debt to make this go away.

Please help as your input is massively appreciated and will help to relieve a lot of stress!
Thank you all!

  • Hi,

Use the template linked below when negotiating a Full & final settlement offer. You will have to edit the letter slightly with regard to updating of your credit files.

  • They have every right to report it to your credit files.

How old is the debt and when was payment to it last made?
  • Thank you both for your responses!

@Willing2Learn, in terms of the letter, would you recommend it be changed from:
'If you accept this offer, please confirm that you will mark my credit reference agency file to show that the above account has been paid and closed.'

    To reflect something like:
'If you accept this offer, please confirm that no amendments will be made towards my credit reference agency'?

@!!!, the debt is from Nov 2015, this is when the last payment was also made.
Looking at my credit file via Experian, there are no defaults there from Sky. Reading other posts in the forum, I gathered that Lowell would not be able to add a default for this, rather alter any default from Sky upon my payment. However, I do not have a default from Sky. So would Lowell be now able to add a 'settled' default?

Thank again for both of your help-you are really helping in a sticky situation.
  • If Lowell decide to report the debt to the CRA's then yes.

Get it paid if you can.
  • Thanks Gary and Willing 2 Learn so far.

I am writing the letter to Lowell based upon Willing's template and looking at the details, I found that I can also simply pay online.

As this will give me a good trail of my payment, would there be any benefit in writing to Lowell rather than paying online?

This should be a lesson to others to not take out a contract for someone else, if you do then have said person send you the money which you then pass onto the company concerned.

Wont get a default, as no account would ever of been created to cra so same rights would apply that sky had
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
