  • You’ll be looking at savings, rather than investing. Realistically it’s a damage limitation exercise with savings rates so low at present.

    Assume you mean £100,000.
Are you paying more in interest on the mortgage than you can earn on deposit? No early repayment penalty? Consider paying off the mortgage?

Interest rates are poor at the moment.
Are you currently contributing to an occupational pension?
Have you obtained a state pension statement?

I can't believe that no-one else has suggested that the OP spend most of it on fast cars, beer and women, and then squander whatever is left, to paraphrase Mr Best.

Ok. Let's try this from another angle and see if we can perhaps elicit a "half-reasonable" response that way.

If YOU had £100,000 to invest, in YOUR current situation, what would you do with it?

Well, I put it all in Tesla shares. But I expect my circumstances are different to yours.
There is NO reasonable response possible without knowing more background.

A quite simple question which will, no doubt, not have a simple answer.

As per the thread title, I have £100,000 to invest (bequeathed in a will). Bar investing in bricks and mortar, what should I be doing with it?
Funding research into determining how long a piece of string is?
  • Well I certainly know where to come if I want someone to tear me a new one ...... 😏
Glad you got some civil responses, "4am".

Well that was worth resurrecting a six month old thread for.
