Ultimate reward account

I had a ultimate reward account with Halifax when I worked and earned over £900 a month. I stopped working to be a stay at home mum and the only money going in was child benefit. I know it’s my own fault for not cancelling but should the bank not of seen i wasn’t earning and advised i changed my account. Despite not earning they continued to charge me £17 a month for this account. Can I reclaim these charges or is it my own fault?

The £17 per month gives you access to a range of benefits and features, so even if you decided you no longer wanted these, why would they assume this, simply because of lower income?
In other words, no, it's not their fault and there's no basis for reclaiming....0 -
No you should have cancelled the fee/changed the account to a free one at the time0

The onus is on you to make sure that any products you hold are suitable for you, based on your circumstances. Whether or not you've actually used it, you've still been provided with all the rewards and insurances over the intervening period - you'd be telling a very different story I'm sure if you'd actually needed them!0

Sort of depends if the OP drives a car which could break down, travels abroad so might need travel insurance or has a mobile phone which could get lost of stolen. I think the Halifax also offer free home emergency cover.
If none of these apply they can feel hard done by - cos getting these via a packaged bank account is usually far cheaper than getting them separately.0
