Paying in a large paper cheque.

it's a lot faster now - even as quick as by the end of the next working day. Which, I appreciate, is still way slower than an electronic transfer, which would always be my preference, too. But if you are stuck with a cheque, at least it's now just a couple of working days wait.then waiting up to 6 days to be sure the money is accessible.

CHAPS every time! It is transferred quickly and you can access the money as soon as it hits your account.
With a cheque there is the problem of finding a bank branch that hasn't been closed down, going to a branch when it's open and then waiting up to 6 days to be sure the money is accessible.
With the Post Office banking as well, I'm sure everyone could get to a bank or post office same day or next day. And it's only next working day to clear. CHAPS every time means a £20-£35 fee every time.0
