Pay direct to vet insurance

Looking at pet insurance for our new kitten.
Do insurance policies generally pay direct to the vet or will I have to settle the bill personally first?
If so are there schemes where the insurance pays the vet directly?
Thank you

It depends on the vet, not the insurer. Check with your vet what their policy is - some are happy to wait for the insurance to pay them, some aren't. Some are, but only from certain insurers.0

As above.
My vet insists on full payment upfront and then they do all the paperwork which they send to the insurance company so it does depend on the vet rather than the insurance company.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

As has already been said, it depends. One close to me takes direct claims if £300 or more, if the excess is paid with the charge for filling out the insurance claim form on the day0
