O/S Daily Monday 4 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but raining and no blustery wind, not too cold either.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy - was lovely meat. Some veg LO's so will use them for a meal over the next few days. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
Back to work today - only this week then I have a week of annual leave and I can't wait, feel more than ready for some time off. Have quite a list of things to do though.
Yesterday we were lazy and chilled.
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
Thank you everyone! xx I have plenty of tea and coffee, I'm usually a boil-just-enough-water person but I'll make sure the kettle is always fullI have lots of snacks – biscuits and fruit – and there's food here that can be made into a meal quickly.
taff That wasn't too much info, it was great, thank you. I'll have a read up on things today.
He's been moved to a room so he has some privacy. The windows are bigger and a bit lower so he has a view now, I don't think he cares but I'm glad he can look out of the window if he wants to. There's all these medical things going on and I'm happy he has a view, lol. I'm trying to persuade mr tru to have at least one visit on his own, it'll be hard but I think he'll be glad of it later on. I really do think he'll regret not having a bit of time on his own with him.
I want to take Scamp for a long walk today but the weather isn't great, hopefully it'll clear up later. I have some work to do today, I'll do the dusting and hoovering this morning then get stuck in later. I'm usually strict with myself about sitting properly when working but I think I'll take it all into the lounge and work from the sofa
You really are a brilliant bunch of people, you do know that don't you? xx :ABulletproof0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I think we have light rain forecast for today. Yesterday's heavy fog soon disappeared when the sun came out.
My thoughts are with TRU and her family. It's a worrying time for you all.
Yesterday was a miserable day here. The power went off around 10 am. A text from Powergen said the electric should be back on by noon. It was - for 2 minutes! Then went off again! Another text apologised and said it could be off until 6.15!!!! Fortunately it was back on before darkness descended. It seemed a very long day without power but at least I was able to finish my book!
No childminding today and then normal service resumes tomorrow as they are back at school. So I might take advantage and trip off on a bus ride up the valley bottom this morning.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Thinking of the poorlies and our absent friends. Take care all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Cold and overcast here with rain due later and for most of the day. Off to work for me and another week, I should hear from my Dr this week as to if he can do the jab in my foot next Monday so fingers crossed he agrees to do it.
Roast lamb again tonight all cooked already so just need to heat through it was very tasty so im looking forward to it after a long day at work.
We have a person who is walking their dog through the village without a lead on and its doing its business where ever it likes and the man just walks off, I cant tell you how many times I found a poo inside the front garden and several times Ive trodden in one walking out of the house, I have had enough of it so we out some signs up yesterday politely asking them to pick it up, if I catch them at it I wont be so polite !!
Tru Im glad FIL has a view at least he has something to look at, better than being in a room with no window, hugs to you all xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning, it's fine here at the moment, but i don't know what the forecast is.
So sorry about your FIL Tru - poor soul. It's a sad, worrying time for the family.
We had a wonderful weekend in Glasgow, never stopped talking. I wish we'd gone on Friday and not Saturday, it would have given us more time to see the city. Mind there's nothing stopping us going back!
Great niece lives on the south side, and our hotel was just a 10 minute walk away. We all seemed to be staying in the same area.
We had a lovely meal out on Saturday evening, lots of wine consumed. It was really nice and the weather wasn't too bad at all.
Back to reality, it will be the usual Monday here, and our monthly book club meeting is this morning as well. Better get myself moving.
Thinking of Tru's Fil, and others who are ill and struggling with life.
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning and happy Monday,
I had an enjoyable weekend which flew in quicker than usual. Aside from the usual things, I also managed to wangle a free ticket to the Manchester City game and I made my return to playing football on the Sunday (and scored!).
Today, I've been to the gym but I seem to have tweaked my neck, so I've popped some ibuprofen and I'll give it a bit of a rest, perhaps skip yoga tonight too. Got a a white wash to put on tonight when I get home and not sure what the plan is for dinner, depends if yoga is on the cards or not.
Tru - Sorry to hear about FIL. I think you're right about encouraging Mr Tru to have some alone time with him too.
Scarlet - Glad to hear you enjoyed your time in my home city. Although I believe the weather was terrible (typical).0 -
Good morning, for once it is not raining here.
Tru, you are in my thoughts. I also agree that some time alone with his father might be good for your DH.
I'm going to get some jobs done this morning and then visit a friend this afternoon, do a couple of errands on the way back
Hope that everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning folks.
Dark and wet here though still fairly mild still.
This morning is going to be busy though the window cleaner may not come if the rain persists.
I enjoyed my visit to friends yesterday, it was lovely to chat about the things I want to do after my op. DM had a good day, she said that she feels stronger. I think she's saying this to reassure me!
My thoughts to all those struggling. Tru - the breathing which taff referred to is called 'Cheyne-Stokes'.
Now I must start my day properly, can't remain horizontal any longer.
Happy Monday to everyone.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Redruby I feel your pain, we have a new boat moored next to us, there are two large male dogs on board. They are never on the lead, they keep coming on to my boat at will, they keep trying to hump Beano who is not impressed.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all.. washing, tidying and gardening today. Couldn't do any yesterday as by the time I'd stirred myself, it was persisting down.
Stuff is beginning to creep back into the cleared areas so off that lot trots today, going to try and find room for the food processor and all attendant parts I got from Freecycle earlier this year..
Also have to spray waterproof my new boots, they have leather bottoms and suede tops, and we all know what happens when you get that stuff wet.
Apart from that, not much going on, still have stew left over from yesterday so a bit of liquid and dumplings to add to it and away we go....
Hester, isn't that terribly bad manners? cheeky so and so's..ruby, same too, I'd be tempted to pick it up and throw it in his garden..tru, .glad your FIL has a view. hope your OH says what he needs to say..Scarlet, glad you had a good weekend..enjoy your week off nmlc. TA, I was just thinking this morning when I put the WM on, what it would be like without electricity and having to wash by hand...not a pleasant thought...Speky, be careful, you seem to be injuring yourself regularly...dumpling, hope you're doing better...nanny, you too.
Hey everyone reading along, Mounted up Monday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Tru, it sounds as if the hospital are being supportive, I wish I could say the same about the one my mum and dad were both treated at. Don't forget to take care of yourself as well as everyone else.
Still no baby, Steve and I were planning to go to Yorkshire next week thinking baby would be at least a couple of weeks old so I'm now dithering wondering whether to alter our plans.
I want to change all the quilts from summer weight to winter weight today and also do some decluttering as the state of some of the rooms is starting to get to me. I spent a couple of hours going through my pile of quilting mags taking out the patterns I wanted to keep. I'll never be able to make all the patterns I have even if I live too be 200. I'm going to concentrate on those that I won't need to buy fabric for to use some of my stash.
I hope the rain holds off so that we can walk Ziggy in the dry this afternoon.0
