O/S Daily Sunday 3 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light, raining steadily although blustery wind has died down, laying water everywhere, quite mild though.
DH and I have been watching catchup tv, DS1 still in his pit, I'm now enjoying cuppa whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok. DH now running a bath, once he's done that I'll go for a shower.
Dinner last night was duck pancakes, egg and prawn rice with mushroom and noodles in black bean sauce. Lunch today will be roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede, peas, yorkshires and gravy. I'll get the pork in the oven and then we have to pop out to fill the car with diesel.
Today will be a lazy chilled day I think. Back to work tomorrow for my normal working week then the following week I'm on annual leave - so will organise xmas puds and xmas cake, we're having a day xmas shopping, we were going away but due to the DW not working we decided to cancel that and just have a day shopping so we can use the money to pay for a new DW if needed, plumber coming out next Monday when I'm on holiday. I'm hoping at the end of next week I'm much more organised as yet again the year as galloped along and I'm not very organised!
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. What a miserable sight when I opened the blinds - heavy fog! Sunny intervals are forecast so hopefully it should soon burn off.
DGD still in bed and I suspect may be there for quite some time. She will doubtless stay on for lunch as DD and the gang probably won't leave the van till nearer tea-time.
I need to strip my bed first job and get that in the wm. That will then replace yesterday's washing festooning the back bedroom.
Other than that not much planned, just a pottering day with time for some reading this afternoon.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning folks.
No fog here, just thin watery blue / grey skies which don't look too great. I'm pleased that Scarlett's visit to Glasgow won't have been spoiled by the threatened dreadful rain.
DM still asleep so I'll leave her be until she wakes. There's washing in the machine which I'll put on later. I'm just having a snack of some nuts as I need to eat before taking painkillers, then I can get moving.
Mo idea what I'll be doing today.
Happy Sunday to everyone.0 -
Morning :hello:
BIL2 went to visit FIL yesterday afternoon, he was much the same but a bit drowsy. By the time we got there at 6.30pm he'd really gone downhill. The nurse was trying to chat to him while checking his blood sugar level etc. but he wasn't really with it. She went to get the doc, after a couple of minutes that doc went to get a more senior doc then they asked us to go to the family room. I didn't want to leave miss tru with FIL by herself (yes she's an adult but it felt wrong!) so mr tru went by himself. All his organs are failing, we knew they'd been failing for quite a while now but it seems so much worse to hear it while he's lying in hospital, doesn't it? He won't be coming home this time, it's just a matter of time now – anything from a few hours to a couple of weeks.
The hospital have said there's no set visiting times for us so we can turn up at any time and if anyone is struggling with the parking charges, contact the ward and they'll sort out parking for relatives. I tend to go into logical mode when something like this happens, I suppose it easier for me because I'm not a direct relative. I've already decided that as our house is the closest to the hospital, people can meet here if there are decisions to be made that need discussing, etc. I've assumed that I'll be doing all day to day things, so mr tru can go off at a moments notice if he has to. I've never been in this exact situation before and I don't want anyone worrying over a little thing that I might have been able to do myself. I can't think of anything at the moment but if there's something that's helped any of you, could you let me know please? x
I'm carrying on mostly as normal, so that means I'll be putting the washing machine on as soon as I've finished this coffeeScamp has left muddy paw prints all over the kitchen floor, I'll wait til he's checked the garden (he does it every morning – trots around the edge, then goes around again sniffing every pot!) before cleaning it up. Then a shower and a walk. Sundays are usually a lazy day so I won't be doing much else, apart from taking over the evening walk with Scamp. One thing I won't do – and probably won't be allowed to do anyway – is touch mr tru's chilli plants. He's very protective of them

Morning All
An overcast morning, could go either way so I've put washing out anyway! The bedding from yesterday is on the rack, may have to finish that off in the TD. DD is bringing some washing to be dried too - wonderful.
Went for logs yesterday and picked up a couple of little things for Christmas, I'm slowly making a dent in the list, plan to have it all finished by the end of November.
We didn't have the promised rain yesterday thank goodness, in fact it was a very calm day with some weak sunshine.
Sorry to hear FIL is failing tru, such a sad time. You can just be there with cups of tea and hugs, sometimes that's all folk need.
I hope you're recovering dumpling, let us know how you are if you can.
Good you got your bag back Csarina but sad you lost all your money and cards.
I caught up with the Simon Reeve programme on the Americas last night, very good I thought.
Right, time to get moving, DD and baby Sophie (or babie Toastie as DGS calls her) are coming for lunch then visitors later.
Have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Tru, sorry to hear about FIL.
We have a mix of sun and showers here, I had a good time at the jumble sale, everyone was friendly and I've been asked to help on 30th so I will if I can.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Tru, my thoughts are with you and your family.
It's a grey day here, very autumnal. Laura is still waiting for baby to appear, she's getting very fed up. If he doesn't appear they will probably induce her on Friday but hopefully it won't come to that.
We went to lunch with Chris and Crystal and her parents yesterday, then Steve unblocked one of their drainpipes. Today will be walking Ziggy and pottering, what an exciting life I lead.0 -
So sorry to hear about FIL tru. It's a very difficult time all round. When my beloved Dad was at the end of his life I appreciated a hot shower and hot drinks. My situation was different in that Dad was in a hospice miles away from his home and hundreds of miles from mine so I was given a room there.
Supplies of understanding and space to talk go well with with everything else.0 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here today, yesterday it did not stop raining all day and evening, OH and the pup got soaked when they went for there walk, I stayed in the dry !!
Tru im so sorry to hear that FIL is failing, I suppose the main thing you could do is make sure you have supplies of drinks and snacks etc for any visitors and be a listening ear, I do feel for you all xx
Onto today I have stripped the beds and got them onto wash OH will remake them later I also need to do the overnight oats later for during the week, I make up three days at a time which is one less job every evening.
Roast lamb for dinner tonight and I will do enough for tomorrow night too. I made soup yesterday so thats all portioned up and in the freezer for work lunches.
I did a lot of Xmas shopping yesterday from my armchair, We have a load of family Birthdays between here and Christmas too so an expensive time of year, I do a transfer from one bank account to another each week I dont reallly miss it and the money goes towards Xmas and I know that at this time of year its already paid for, Im going to try and cut some corners this year and put any left over money into our holiday fund.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Tru, sorry to hear about your FIL.
As others have said, what helps is lots of tea and easy eats. Things like sandwiches in fridge and folks know to help themselves. Maybe pot of soup if you’re a soup maker? Big hugs X0 -
Morning all,
Foggy here too.DGC went to the village bonfire last night but didnt stay that long ,they were tired as D GD had a sleepover at her friends the night before and DGS was up early for football and then a party. We stayed in to look after an anxious Ly1a.She had her pills and we turned the tv up loudbut she woke me up at 4 this morning .I'll keep giving the pills as there are bound to be more fireworks yet.DGS has gone home, going to another party
but DGD is still here.
Tru,sorry to hear FIL is failing,it's a difficult time. I've been in your situation too many times as both sets of parents and DH sister have all passed away, but I can't really suggest anything different to what the others already have xx
I haven't heard the date for Auntie up the roads funeral yet but her daughter isn't the best at communicating.I'll prob text later. Right I shall love you and leave you, take care every one x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
