I've always thought compression socks were more for the elderly, whom are at higher risk for blood clots while sitting still for long periods of time. Personally, I've never worn them as I find them too uncomfortable. I fly long haul at least twice a year for work (cattle class always, not important enough for business class :p) and I just do in-seat exercises I found on Google beforehand or take a walk around the plane / do some stretches.

I don't think compression socks can fully replace moving around and stretches although they certainly won't hurt (same goes for travel insurance, it's cheap enough these days that there's no reason not to have it).

Thanks all for the very helpful contributions.

On reflection, I don't think we need them. One of the (many) advantages of flying Business Class:)

    OT.

Enjoy the flight, we are going the week after next too!

    Thanks, you too.

    Even more OT
We go at least once a year to visit my son, who now has PR after living there since mid 2012.

Will be different this visit, due to ongoing protests, but we know our way around well enough to stay away from problem areas.

If you're not a regular visitor & would like some insider tips, please PM me.

    Keep safe & enjoy HK

Thanks to everyone who posted on here.
I managed to get an aisle seat (big argument at check-in desk due to a block booking as I had been assigned a window seat-Aargh- post the Thomas Cook affair!) As normal I was awake all night so up, down and walking around which is how I spotted the incident. (she was someone I knew anyway)
Some of my socks are post-op ones, so I know they are a good fit.

    Happy flying folks

My OH always wears flight socks. If she doesn't her feet swell up and she's unable to wear her going out shoes for a couple of nights.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • I find having my feet up just a bit helps. I tend to pile a few things up to lift my feet off the floor. If I don’t my legs and feet swell massively. Makes a big difference. I think the edge of the seat is restricting my circulation.

It does, especially if your feet aren't touching the floor and all your weight is being born by the backs of your legs. That's why short people are at bigger risk of DVT as well as tall/long legged people.

My hand luggage is a rucksack that goes under the seat in front and doubles as a foot rest.
At a tad under 5 feet tall, I need support for my feet and legs.
