You have £500k +in savings which are secure but presumably earning interest at a lower rate than inflation . So each year the real value of your money is reducing by between £5K and £10K every year .
Especially at your young (ish) age you should be investing a large part of this money in Stocks and shares with a view to long term earning a return above inflation . This brings some short/medium term risk but history shows if you invest for long enough ( >10 years) then you have a very good chance of seeing positive returns .
However £500K is a lot of money and as you say
Probably best to see an IFA and let them sort you out an investment portfolio . Then spend some time learning about investment ( you do not have to go down to minute detail , there are some simple strategies) with a view to possibly doing it yourself in future at some point .: I don’t know much about investing0 -
Had you considered pension contributions?
https://adviserbook.co.uk/ You would tick "confirmed independent" and such other specialisms as required.0 -
Max out workplace pension and stocks and shares ISA. Invest in a well diversified multi asset fund, something like VLS80 as you are quite young. Job done.“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”0

Thanks guys.
Will defo look into VLS80, got recommended on other occasions.
May I ask what the main benefits are to prioritise maxing out my workplace pension please?
Does it matter which workplace pension is?0 -
The main benefits to maximising pension benefits is that you get tax relief on your pension payments at your highest rate of tax and usually employers will match your contributions up to a maximum amount. This means if you are close to the HR of tax as you are then you can make higher pension payments which can keep you under the HR threshold if you pay under salary sacrifice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
