Hi,

Are there any podcasters, audio experts, general techies or musicians out there that can give a bit of advice on a cheap audio booth?

I am looking to build a little wraparound acoustic panel booth around my monitor/webcam for when I use Google Hangouts or on a phonecall, just to keep it a bit more private in our terrace house.

Just looking for a cheap £10-£15 solution and thought AliExpress would be worth a go with its excellent free shipping option to the UK.

Can anyone recommend any panels that may be the best option from the myriad of panels listed?

  • Your link is taking me to a sign in page for aliexpress so not working for me.

Back many years ago my brother made his bedroom sound proofed (he liked his music loud) by sticking cardboard egg crates, you know the type of crates that hold two dozen eggs you still see in some supermarkets or farm shops, to his bedroom walls that surprisingly worked well.

Mind you, it don’t look very nice.

I'd probably put carpet on the walls, or carpet tiles as a first guess, but then thought rockwool, and then fibreglass, wondered which one was the cheapest? Perhaps encapsulate the rockwool and fibreglass (extra internal skin and added heat insulation?)

Postage from China is cheaper, but when you say "tile", even the thin bathroom variety amount to a substantial size of box volume. Would think that is it is the small end of a box room then it could possibly be around very large suitcase size, if you are lucky, perhaps a few rolls of more expensive rockwool from your local shop could be cheaper overall, definitely quicker delivery?

The problem with buying from AliExpress is when the product that arrives is unfit for the purpose.

You may already have paid VAT and other costs to import the items and then have the trouble/costs of shipping it back.
