New energy supplier. Not sure what to do about reporting the metre reading

I've recently moved into a rented flat. We setup our energy supplier which came with various problems, but nevermind it's all sorted now. It's been about a month and a half since we moved in now and the supplier is asking for a reading what the metre States. I have the meter reading for the day when we moved in. Should I use this meter reading or one from today.
Surely if I use the reading from today, who would pay for the difference from when we moved in? I'm so confused!!

Go to your online account and enter readings as necessary so that it shows
- the reading on the day your tenancy started (not necessarily the day you moved in) and;
- the reading today.

You should have given them the meter reading on the day you became responsible for the flat - if you didn't then you could end up paying for the previous tenant.
You now have to give your supplier the current meter reading and ideally you should keep giving them a meter reading every month so you can keep track of your energy consumption.
Also you MUST check your online account every month to ensure that the supplier is using the readings that you give them (if not get them corrected) and that your Direct Debit is covering your consumption and you aren't getting too far into arrears or in credit.
If you do it properly, you'll stay on top of your energy bills and save yourself a lot of grief in the future. BTW make sure that you read the meter yourself, don't rely on someone else doing it for you.
It's your bill, your money, your responsibilityNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Did you set up an energy account with the supplier who supplied the previous tenants/owners?Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Ring them up and give them both readings.
As above don't wait for the supplier to contact you - read your meters every month and enter them online.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
