The promised / threatened rain storm hasn't arrived. It's mild with little rain showers so I was over-dressed for shopping.

My new electric blanket arrived on time yesterday so I took the opportunity to strip the bed and turn the mattress topper. I spent a few minutes trying to work out if the electric blanket should go under or over the mattress topper - decided that it must go on top. Last night wasn't so cold but I still had it on low for an hour, so cosy.

DM has got herself all worked up because she hadn't heard from her friend. She imagined him lying on the floor of his house without being able to reach help! Turns out that the email he sent last night hadn't arrived (and still hasn't).

Tru - how awful for everyone, it's the shock and worry which drains the emotions. I hope that your FIL is recovering well.

Csarina - at least you've got back the bag, well done those builders. It's no consolation as you've had all the bother of cancellations etc.

Taff - no over-doing things out in the garden!

AOD - marmite on hot toast is so delicous. I'm avoiding bread just now but am so tempted - I will resist. :rotfl:

TA - hope you enjoy your well-deserved rest.

In about an hour I'll go and set up the afternoon tea tray for DM and her visitor. Today it's apple pie, Victoria sponge and the little cream cakes from M&S. I have to go back out later to collect an order and (maybe) visit a friend.
  • Afternoon all. It seems we are getting off lightly here compared to some parts of the country, the south in particular sounds to be getting a battering. Still just grey and slight drizzle here.

DD, BF and the 2 youngest DGDs are having one last night at the caravan before the marathon shut down starts again. Eldest DGD preferred to stay home and is coming up to me for her tea and to sleep. I don't mind at all, she's company for me (when she isn't glued to her blooming phone!)

The cleaning (such as I could be bothered to do) has been done and I have done a darks wash load, now draped over the airer in the youngest DGDs' bedroom. The second load, lights, is on its last lap and soon that will adorn the bedroom also. Then I might manage a couple of hours reading before DGD drags herself up the hill from their house.

Looking forward to tonight's Strictly as always. Don't know who my money would be on to go this week!

Keep safe and dry folks xx

Hi everyone I've been meaning to post all week...I've been off work for half term but the week seems to have just disappeared....helped my little grand daughter I think!
On Monday youngest DD, baby and I went to Edinburgh for the day - we had a lovely day out. I did some Christmas shopping and got some bits I needed at Primark - and some black boots from TK Maxx I definitely didn't need as I have about 7 other pairs....quite similar...but I have a thing about black boots.

On Tuesday I had my little great nephew for the day - another lovely day -we played and went for a long walk through the fields and he had a great time splashing in the puddles. He's 2 and a half and great fun.....he talked for 5 hours! I really enjoyed it as I don't have him to myself that often.

Wednesday - I had little grand daughter in the morning, then did manage to have a lovely peaceful afternoon to myself.

Thursday ….baby again as she pulled her feeding tube out through the night so DD had to take her to the hospital at 2 in the morning so she was shattered. Did manage to get out for lunch with my friend though and had a lovely long natter.
Baby grand daughter to stay on Thursday night so DD could have a sleep....didn't go to plan as baby was ill in the night and I had to phone for an ambulance. It came quickly as did DD when I woke her and baby didn't have to go to hospital so went home with her mummy.

Friday - well it was 4am when I went to sleep so didn't wake till 10.30 - I felt like I'd wasted half my day! Went for a nice lunch with DD then had little grand daughter while she went to dentist. I went to bed early last night and slept for 9 hours! Unfortunately DD didn't have such a good night, so little one was delivered back to me about 9am.We've been into town and to the library and she's now fast asleep beside me on the sofa. Hopefully her mummy is fast asleep too.

So that's my week off almost finished - hard to remember not having little grand daughter to fill my time, though I wouldn't have it any other way. She's 10 months old tomorrow and such a little cutie, though hard work and a constant worry for her mummy with her feeding problems and lung disease. Every time she pulls the tube out of her nose, it's more than a 2 hour round trip to the hospital and it takes about 5 hours to put a new one in. Things could be a lot worse though.

That was a long one....going to read for a bit now while she's asleep. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Good Afternoon chums ,oh TRU you poor soul what a worrying day for everyone .I hope you day is less eventful today .

Eldest DD has just rung to say would I like to go to dinner tonight at her house ,so I was pleased to say yes as she also has her ma-in-law down from London my old friend Margaret so we will be able to have a good chinwag and put the world to rights
Then tomorrow I am off to youngest DDs for dinner so not a lot of cooking going on at the moment in my house.

Its been a very stormy morning here in Kent with rain alshing down and high winds, but it seems to be calming down a bit now .

On Thursday after DD and I and Mikey went to Chislehurst caves (Mikeys favourite place in the autumn half term )DD treated me to lunch at a Toby carvery While I was queueing up there was a chap about three in front of us who had got his meal and taken it to his table ,then returned with a medium sized lock'n'lock box and proceeded to fill it up with a large selection of vegetables from the counter !! I give him 10/10 for cheek if nothing else :)Looking at the size of the box I should think he had enough to feed himself over the weekend at least ,he also had a zip-up picnic cooler type bag that he put his big box of cooked veg in :).
I was just about to get served by the chef and had asked for turkey and the chef said it will be only a minute as the fresh turkey ws being brought out from the oven .I said its OK I don't mind there is lots on the one thats here and he said No this will go in the bin as we only carve off the breast, and he immediately, took the dish off the counter and put in on the floor by the bin.!!! there was probably enough left on the existing carcass to feed about a good dozen or so people I was really shocked at the waste. So perhaps the chap had the right idea ,although I don't think I could have done it :) The chef said they never bother to cut or carve the legs of the turkey either as people aren't keen on the darker meat !!! I just thought what a dreadful waste of good food At least during the war it would have gone for pig swill.
I find it dreadful the amount of food waste that goes on in pubs/restaurants, especially when folk are going hungry.

I hope everyone is warm and in the dry ,November already and next month we will have Christmas, not even thought about shopping for that yet I will be having a chat to Margaret later as we usually go shopping together for the family stuff

Right the kettle is calling so its time for a cuppa and a piece of fruit cake that I cooked this morning
Have a good weekend chums and keep wrapped up warm

    JackieO xx
