Old Style Daily Saturday 02 November 2019

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone.

I haven't looked outside yet so can't tell if the threatened heavy rain has arrived yet, all's quiet so perhaps it's on the way.

There will be a short shopping trip this morning and then I hope to visit a friend later.

Thoughts are out to all those struggling. Happy Saturday to all.

Morning :hello:

Thanks for the link Speky :D

Yesterday went wrong, we were almost at the dentist when FIL's cleaner rang and said she'd arrived to find him slumped in his chair, his breathing was very shallow. She knew exactly what to do because she also does hospice care (not for FIL, she's a family friend who wanted to earn a bit of extra money and ended up working in his house, lol). A very long story short – the doc had told him to stop taking his heart medication and had given him a slightly stronger prescription. But he takes a variety of tablets and uses a pill box, he couldn't tell which one was the heart tablet so he thought it best not to take any of them! We got to his house over an hour later, BIL arrived a bit after that and we were there a couple of hours. People were busy with their various things and I felt a bit useless, so I just made cups of tea, opened his post and filed things away. He's now in hospital, he'll probably be there until tuesday.
We got home at about 3pm, absolutely starving. We just threw some pizzas into the oven, neither of us had the energy to actually cook anything :D

The heating didn't come on this morning so I checked the boiler, couldn't find anything obviously wrong so I tried the easiest thing first – pressed the reset button. It worked, but as I pressed it I thought “I need one of these, I need resetting!” :D
It was mid-afternoon before I ate anything yesterday and there was nothing healthy about it, lol. I feel drained this morning so I'll start the day with some fruit (though I don't really fancy it) then have a rummage through the freezer for soup for lunch.
I need to vacuum the floors and do a load of washing, not sure I'll do anything else – too hungry and too tired :D

Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them, those that are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light and wet underfoot - we had a really heavy storm for a while last night, so lots of laying water, although it's not raining at the moment, its forecast for later with a blustery breeze.

DH up and watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge. DS1 enjoying first cuppa and getting ready to watch the rugby, DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was pie, chips, peas and gravy for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight will be duck pancakes and veg and prawn rice.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got the ironing done, stripped our bed, got the bed re-made and the washed linen dried in the TD (wasn't going to dry on the line) and used a sweet potato and a butternut squash from the bottom of the fridge to make some soup - this will be my lunch today and my work lunch for Monday.

I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the building society, then home to watch the last part of the rugby.

We'll be visiting the parents later.

Keep safe and well x

Morning All

That all sounds a bit scary tru, hope you have a calmer day today and FIL makes a good recovery.
Any news on your bag csarina? A few years ago I left my bag in the trolley in the Ikea car park, only realised when I got home. Thankfully someone had found it and handed it in.
Good news on the rental Speky.

It's a steady drizzle here and will probably stay the same for the rest of the day. We've had some really good weather for the past couple of weeks so can't complain (but I will!).

DD and baby Sophie have a cold, I went after work yesterday and cuddled Sophie whilst DD had a shower. Still had some snotty smiles!

I really have to go and buy some logs today, I've missed the fire, the heating doesn't make it as cosy as I like. May well look for a couple of christmas presents whilst I'm out as I have an idea of what I want to get.

Have a good weekend, take care. XX
• Morning folks and thanks GERS. The threatened heavy rain has yet to reach us, it just looks calm, grey and miserable for now.

Oh TRU not a good day for you yesterday, hope today is a better one. You have reminded me of the time the early morning home care lady arrived at my DM's to find she had taken every single tablet from her dossett box. Cue another hospital admission. After that the box was kept out of her reach on top of a kitchen cupboard.

Today I have the Saturday Friday Tidy as everything has been postponed a day due to minding the DGDs. Cleaning on a Friday is bad enough but I hate cleaning on a Saturday even more! If I can whizz along I have promised myself a feet up afternoon reading. Eldest DGD may be here to sleep but she will let me know.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, stressed or sad. Take care all xx

• Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Gers.

Tru what a worrying and exhausting day for you, hope your FIL is feeling a bit better and that today is easier.

I've had 2 cups if tea and am now eating toast and marmite which is my staple food. OH will get up soon and head off to do the shopping, he is going to make me a fishcake tonight and they will be having humungous haunches of meat.

I did some housework yesterday and today will do the bare minimum as I'm fed up with doing it.

No particular plans though I need to go to the post office soonish, possibly not today as the forecast is really quite dire, though the predicted heavy rain has not yet started.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• Morning all

Thanks for the thread gers and hugs to all those in need.

Chucking it down here and very windy we are bobbing about all over the place.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
• I had a call from the Police in Melton, my bag was handed in teatime yesterday. Both purses were empty and they had also taken the debit card and cheque book. mobile phone, also my treasured parker pen. They had not found the two credit cards they were tucked in a small wallet that had various loyalty cards in. Apparently the bag was found by the builders who are working on a site near the river just up the road from Aldi. I will get it back later. They said no point dusting for prints on the purses there would be hundreds of prints, most of them smudged.

We went into Leicester yesterday and called at Sainsbury on the way home for fish and chips so I did not have to cook last night. When we got home my bank credit card had arrived, so when I get my bag the old one will have to be cut up. The rest will arrive sometime during the week. My new phone also came yesterday.

I feel wrung out this morning. Sorry to hear about your drama yesterday, Tru, hope you are feeling a bit better this morning.

OH is watching the rugby, no idea what I am going to do.

Morning all...Did a big fat zero yesterday. Met a couple of friends for coffee in the evening.
Today I'm putting on my big girls pants and going into the garden, where I will leave the compost bin where it is [ was going to move it but not now] and I'm going to fill it with all the stuff it should be filled with.
I'm going to get wet but what the hell, I'm waterproof....
Before that I will get the parcel that mysteriously I missed even though I was here.

csarina, good to hear it came back and , in one way, at least you know what happened to it, in another, shame it didn't electrocute the little scrotes. Have a good day if you can...tru, just have a day of doing nothing, it's easy to underestimate how much of a shock that was, rest and recover...Hester, same here but not bobbing..hope it calms down for you. TA, enjoy pottering..AOD, with you on housework, tea and a book instead :) stay warm and dry everyone [hey dumpling, hey nanny].
Soaking wet Saturday....

Morning all

Pouring with rain here and blowing a gale the power keeps flickering too so we might have a power cut at some point.

Wont be going out today as the shopping was done yesterday so can stay in the warm and dry, im going to sort out my two big larder cupboards as they seem to have got in a mess and I shall make some soup for next weeks lunches.

OH is going out to pick up a few bits he will collect my painkillers while out and pick up some sugar which I forgot yesterday. Its the next village fireworks tonight (if its not cancelled) so will hunker down with a loud tv on to distract the dog, I shall give her some doggy Ritalin too.

Book club was brilliant last night we had some lovely food and put the world to rights and plenty of wine was consumed too !

Tonight we will have some breaded chicken with chips and the coleslaw and beetroot left from last night so a simple meal.

Tru I hope you have a better day today and your FIL is ok, it sounds like he mught be better off in hospital xx

Have good days all xx
