Wardbrobe storage help

We’re in a new build with built in wardrobes but they are empty inside.

Currently all of our clothes are in plastic boxes but it’s not ideal getting to everything.

I’ve looked for plastic drawers but they seem quite small. Does anyone have any good storage ideas or can recommend any products? Really struggling to find anything.

I’m not sure we would fit proper drawers in there as it’s a sliding door so not a huge amount of manoeuvring space.

Any ideas would be great!!

If the depth is decent 600mm+ then there are loads of options.

Depending how much you want to spend you could go cheap with a few rails+shelves or go for shop fittings.

You could pay a carpenter for a day to come and fit it out with internal framing (for want of a better word) and shelves.

You can buy the Komplement drawers/random pieces from Ikea, even, and the carpenter can create internal sections to suit - easy enough as they're 50, 75 & 100cm. Any left over space in your wardrobe and they can makes shelves for you at the side.

If there’s space, you could put a chest of drawers in. Tatty brown furniture is cheap, and it’s easy to paint with chalk paint. Or even the innards of an old wardrobe.

Or the chipboard stuff from ikea as Doozer says.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Standard wardrobe fit in my projects has been a 2/3rds deep shelf at about eye level with a chrome hanging rail fixed to it far enough from the back wall to allow for clothes on hangers.

Shoes in boxes on the floor or buy some wardrobe components from Ikea (PAX) and fit those.

Any decent handyman can sort that for you in a day.

Lots of companies do the inserts/inners.

    Even screwfix - https://www.screwfixwardrobes.com/storage-systems

A visit to Ikea should solve your problem. They sell dozens of fittings or at least will give you plenty of ideas from their displays. Always look in the 'Second chance' department as there are usually plenty of shelves and odd fittings there.

We went the Ikea route and we have a bedroom dedicated to storage - we have one wall with 4 double PAX wardrobes, which we designed to fit the length of the wall, and on the inside of those we have various rails, shelves, pull out baskets, pull out shelves with sorting compartments etc which meets all out our needs and leaves the rest of the rooms clutter free beyond the things we want in them.

The total cost of the full system was £900 I think, although we already had one of the wardrobes so maybe a little more, but that was for a lot of internal customisation. The cost difference between that though and getting a bespoke built in wardrobe was considerable and this is ideal for us.

My hubby built ours and we've just got shelves and hanging. No drawers in the wardrobes. Two bedside tables with drawers.
