O/S Daily Friday 1 November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, wet underfoot and raining steadily, air is much milder.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was roasted chicken thighs, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight will be something easy.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive and got done most of what I wanted, today I'll strip our bed, wash linen, remake and do some ironing. I'll be going to do the food shopping first thing too. I have some veg in the fridge that I bought to make some soup - I just haven't been motivated to do this but it's now soup eating weather, so hoping to do that today - then I'll have soup for tomorrow's lunch and Monday's - or will put some in the freezer.
I'm hoping that today I can spend some time researching some recipes too.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone.
Thanks fir starting us off nmlc.
Gosh, it's November, where has this year gone? I've been here since early March and yet now it seems a blink of the eye.
This morning the domiciliary dentist is coming to DM to do a scale and polish. Then I should go into town to close a maturing saving account. The weather is meant to be awful today and then atrocious tomorrow so I shall see. It works also depend on how sore my hip and knee are.
Yesterday I pulled out the bedside table for the first time in too long! Talk about dust bunnies...there were dust elephants behind it. It took me ages but it's done now. I also sorted out the electric cables, removed an unused radio and tidied the shelf. This is all because I've ordered an electric blanket which is arriving today. Oh, perhaps I can't go into town, bum!!
Anyway, my thoughts to those struggling. And a happy Friday to all the folks here.0 -
Morning :hello:
csarina That's awful, I hope you're OK xx
Speky Scamp would follow the scent into traffic if he was on an extendable lead! He's usually very good when we cross a road, I taught him to sit down before we walk across. But he's 100% focused on tracking if he smells a cat, fox, squirrel or rabbit and he's blind and deaf to everything else
You mentioned a diary – do you have a blog?
Gers Scamp has only rolled in fox poo a couple of times, when he finds some he usually investigates but doesn't touch it. I'm grateful for that - I didn't realise how bad it smelt until the first time he rolled in it. Mr tru had taken him out and I was sat in the lounge when they arrived home, as soon as he opened the front door I couldn't see them but I could smell it and yelled “what the HELL is THAT?” and they hadn't even walked into the house
Mum turned up with choccy buttons yesterday so I was very happy. Scamp was barky with the delivery, made worse by mum making a fuss. I forgave her though, because of the chocolate
We have dentist appointments this morning, just check-ups so I'm not panicking too much, lol. I think a couple of teeth need attention but I've already decided I'm not having anything done before Christmas. When we get home one of us will make lunch while the other walks Scamp, then hope the phone doesn't ring and we get a whole afternoon of peace

Good morning, it's cold and wet here, November weather I suppose.
Thanks NMLC for starting
Nanny it was good to see your post yesterday, sorry you've been so poorly. I was wondering what had happened.
Csarina, what a nasty thing to happen, hope you are all right.
Yesterday was ok, and went to plan, except that I intended to do some ironing and didn't.
We are invading Glasgow for the weekend, for my great niece's birthday, her 30th.
There are 12 of us going in total, all close family, from various parts of England.
I think some are going today, we will go tomorrow morning.
I'm looking forward to catching up with my family - the last time was the end of May when the same niece was married in London.
There's a few bits to do towards that, not much though, we'll only be away one night.
I hope everyone has a good Friday anyway.
Take care folks xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks for the new thread NMLC. It's a grim start here too, misty and mizzling but slightly less cold. It sounds like the rain is here to stay for a good few days, bah!
Brilliant time at the theatre last night. The show was fantastic from start to finish. Our free seats were in the stalls (we expected to be up in the Gods!!) and would have cost £52 each! We are now looking forward to seeing it again in 2 weeks - sad to say at considerable cost!! ( It was a joint Christmas present for us all from DD when tickets first went on sale 12 months ago!!)
NAN good to see you again but sorry you are still unwell. Sadly no consolation to you but my friend's DH is suffering from much the same thing. He has been like it since September with, as yet, no diagnosis. He's been on anti b's, steroids, anti h's, to no avail. A referral to Immunology revealed nothing so last week he was finally x-rayed and referred to the maxilla something specialist. Appointment next Friday.
Shopping day was postponed to today so off to Aldi in a bit. With the DGDs in tow I shall have to watch what goes in the trolley!! This means the Friday Tidy too will be postponed a day till tomorrow. DD will be picking the girls up after work around 3.30 and by then I shall be passed caring what the house looks like!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Thinking of the poorlies and those with worries and woes. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Raining and cold here and more rain all weekend washing will be in the TD again.
We had a bit of an eventful evening last night, I was cooking in the kitchen and looking out the window for OH and the pup who had gone for a walk, and saw gridlock in our tiny village cars everywhere and a lady on a broken mobility scooter in the middle of the road, I went out and saw it was one of our clients from work, she had run out of battery and was stuck ! people were edging past her in their cars and getting angry and beeping, I was so angry, only one lady stopped to help an she had babies in her car, loads of men just drove straight past ! anyhoo OH turned up back from his walk and managed to push the scooter to the pavement and then lift scooter with her in it onto the pavement, not one person offered to help !! We managed to phone her mum who came down and did something to the scooter and got it going enough to get her home, I was so angry though that people were not concerned about helping a disabled person but just squeezing past her to get on their way !!
I am hosting 'book club' tonight at my house a three of us get together every two months or so and basically drink wine eat food and put the world to rights, its absolutely nothing to do with books it just makes it sound better ;-)
So I am going to cook a baked Feta as a starter with some french bread to dip in, then a variety of pizzas with hm coleslaw, tomato salad beetroot and Parmesan salad and some mixed leaves, there will be a tiny bit of alcohol involved too !!
So Im going to have breakfast then go to the shops to do the weeks shopping, prep the bits I need to for dinner then make sure the house looks decent, this afternoon I shall have a bath and maybe a relax for an hour or so before they arrive.
Nanny sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly, bug hugs xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Happy Friday and Happy November!
Not long after I posted on here yesterday, I got a call from my landlord. He's a really nice man and has been nothing but helpful and generous with me since I moved in. The topic was the renewal of my rental agreement, where I felt uncomfortable committing to 12 months given the small chance I could be moving elsewhere. I explained this to him and he understood. He agreed to lower the agreement to include a break clause after 3 months and he'll send me an email to say that even if I need out before then, 4 week notice is fine. So I'm happy with that.
Went on to have a semi productive day, including buying an Xmas gift for my gran and a Nando's with a colleague which was nice. Nipped to the gym and then had a call with my mum before jumping into bed.
Spends: Xmas gift £15, Milk £1.15, Snack 80p, Nandos, £12.65
Total: £29.60
NSD: Ended on 10. Poor show.
No gym this morning, so I'll go after work. I've got a catch up call with my gran later tonight which will be nice, as always. I've got a semi busy weekend, so I'm going to enjoy a relaxing evening tonight me thinks. Pea and bacon risotto for dinner.
Gers - Thanks for the link yesterday regarding rental agreements
AoD - Turns out your suggestion was what I settled on!
Deleted_User - Oh how annoying. Hope you're ok. Has the shop got CCTV? And they usually have a security guard too.
Tru - I love seeing a dog sitting at the kerb by it's owner waiting to cross. Very obedient. My diary is on here. I started it years ago as I was trying to get out of debt. HERE it is. And, now that I've bought a couple of Xmas presents, I'm already looking forward to your daily Christmas carols haha!
Dumpling - Hope you're ok0 -
Thank you to those who enquired about my well being yesterday. I was livid to be honest, a) with myself and b) with the scroat who took it. Fortunately there was very little money in my purse but of course my credit and debit cards and also a cheque book and various other things. OH is now saying that I should not take a handbag with me when I go shopping but an over body small bag I have. Just with some cash and my debit card, believe me it will not happen again. The police took the numbers off the box my phone was delivered in, as it was locked with a password she thought they might try to sell it at cash converters.
OH is getting more use in his hand but his grip is weak, the huge dressing comes off tomorrow so he may be able to use the hand with a rubber glove on, we will see.
My neighbour is 90 today, so we have been invited to go over for cake...I was intending to make her a small quilt but it has not happened, I have made her two lace mats instead, will do my best to get the quilt done for Christmas.

Good morning from the soggy Wet Mudlands. Thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Nanny, hope you get a proper diagnosis soon, it sounds horrid, poor you.
Deleted_User that's a horrible thing to happen. Hope you are not too shaken by it.
Redruby your book club sounds fun, do you actually have a book to discuss and then just have a nice time instead? I read a lot but have never been part of a book club. When I was at work, my manager and I shared a lot of books and were regarded as a very small book club.
Speky I'm glad that worked out.
Yesterday I was very busy, did washing and ironing (oh the horror) cleaned windows, cleaned the oven, did floors and now I think I can't be bothered with the Friday Tidy. Also I have been offered a piece of work and need to start reading the paperwork. It will be many months before that is finished unless it comes to a sticky end so it won't have much impact on finances for quite a while but it will keep me out of mischief and I enjoy what I do.
I am now about to look at the newspaper and despair at the political news, then start my work reading.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible with special thoughts for Dumpling.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Grey and drizzly here, I'm hoping to get some more sewing done.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Well, that's two appointments cancelled this week, the dental nurse rang to say that the dentist has gone home sick. Yesterday the cleaning company manager did the same. All those viruses are out and about already.
DM decided to have a shower instead. That takes a lot of organising and faffing around. She's now lovely and clean and I've cut her hair again - it's not wonderful but the best I can do.
My delivery is coming at about 4pm so I can snuggle down until then.
csarina - what a dreadful thing to happen, think it's the shock more than the loss. And the palaver too. I hope you're feeling not too shaken up.0
