Price and availabilty most plumbers didnt call or text back couple said Feb 2020 would be the 1st availabilty seem like the norm. We waited for 4 weeks for him to come out. After everything thats happened I would of kept my old bathroom and done it myself.
Why are you using social networking to identify 'tradesmen', and text messages to chat with them? These are informal communication best suited to your mates, not to a formal contract involving thousands of pounds.
It is central heating season: I would not expect decent plumbers to have a half empty diary.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Are you insane?
No, you dont know the whole story. I paid for parts and labour however he never completed the job should of refused to pay him until the job was complete or no money at all.0 -

But you still hired a tradesman, let him into your house, and paid him money, without even knowing his *name*?0 -

Payment terms would be in the itemised quotation or invoice, and on headed 'paper'. Without that you just transferred a sum of money to a stranger's current account. What it was for may be disputed.if there are significant materials needed it's fair for the contractor to want some limited upfront payment for materials, but you'd expect those materials to be delivered to you and to belong to you.
But the amount should be agreed upfront and should be limited. The bulk of the payment should either be made on satisfactory completion, or perhaps, by agreement, in installments.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
It sounds like you have been ripped off by an unscrupulous contractor. I am sorry for you. However
1) that does not mean all contractors (private or public), are unscrupulous
2) you have brought this on yourself to alarge degree
3) you failed to find out his name.address before making the contract, let alone paying
4) you found him via 'social media' rather than a reputable source
5) you failed to put a proper ontract in place (did you even get a written quote)?
6) you paid by debit card (or bank transfer?)
7) most plumbers are very busy at this time of year - especially the good ones!
Unless you can find him, you cannot sue him.
I suspect the bank will not refund your money, since you paid him voluntarily. This was not a financial 'scam' (where someone tricked you into paying them) - it is a civil dispute between you and the contractor, so the bank will leave it to you to resolve.0 -
So you think you can get treated better by the big companies?
Dont bad mouth all independent tradespeople just because you have had a bad experience.
I am having a total bathroom refit done next week by a local fitter, I have bought the bathroom fittings myself and paying him to fit them, AFTER THE JOB HAS BEEN DONE AND I AM HAPPY WITH IT.
I have sort of stalked him for the past few months, looking at his work and contacting people who have used him and yes he could still be a cowboy, but that is a risk you take.SPC 0370
