Credit Card Default

I managed to allow a credit card account to default due to a combination of doziness, too much on my plate and failing to update the address they had on record for me after I moved.

As soon as I was alerted to it by a CRA I paid the account off in full.

Am I now stuck with this on my credit file for the next 6 years or can I request the CC company to remove it now it's paid off, and are they likely to help?

Thanks.

It'll fall off in 6 years. It's impact will however diminish over time

There's nothing to stop you asking, but the card company needs to accurately report the account status.

It would have helped had you asked this question to the cc company prior to paying it off. You could have said very sorry I can pay in ful now but will you please please please remove the default. However, now you have paid it off they have no incentive to remove the default. You can of course always ask them.
Of course, you must have already missed payments in order for it to have reached the default stage.
