Yeah it’s a bankers draft, this is basically a cheque isn’t it?

I most certainly wouldn’t walk into a bank with
£20,000 cash.

Vulnerable people (which includes elderly people) getting conned or coerced into withdrawing money from their accounts and handing it over to criminals is a common occurrence.

Your fathers bank were only looking out for his best interests, there was no need for him to have been rude.

You know £20K is more than some people (including a typical bank cashier!) earn in a year, right? :rotfl:

I was asked a load of questions when I wanted to withdraw £25k from my building society for my house purchase.

I didn't have a problem with the questions but was a little bemused by it as I asked for a cheque in my name so that I could pay it into an account at my bank (unable to do a direct transfer).

The bank teller did the correct thing in asking questions on what the money is/who for.
Sadly there are far too many scams going on.
If your father withdrew the money and handed it over to a conman your first question would be why did the bank allow him to withdraw it without question and your family would be up in arms!! Staff are trained to spot signs that customers might be a victim of fraud, too many people are rude and ignorant to staff who are doing their job and looking after their customers and their money, a poilet conversation to simply say it's a gift for my children to buy a car, house etc... isn't hard.
