BT Scam Letter?

Unsure whether this the correct place to raise this thread.

Just received a letter from BT saying they are sorry that my complaint has taken so long . They gave me a number 0800 800 150 to call if I need a reminder of what they are doing.
Plus they added contact details for the Ombudsman service , etc etc.

It must be a scam because I moved my landline from BT to another supplier 4 years ago. BUT they are quoting correctly on this letter my old BT account number (an old LW reference).

Luckily I still had my old login details and attempted to access the old 'MY BT' online account and succeeded (why hasn't it been closed?). Fortunately all my personal details are no longer accessible via the screens but my old LW account number IS still there for any potential hacker to see. Unsure how they were able to access my address details because I couldn't see it on any screen links.

Doesn't this suggest that the 'MY BT' database has been hacked? I have never accessed that account online for over 4 years so I doubt it was some hacking via my own computer.

The other possibility is some error on BT's systems which have reincarnated old complaints and automatically generated genuine follow-up letters to their customers. Very strange goings on !
