washing machine building regs tenant liability

A bathroom is a special location under the 18th Edition wiring regulations (also in previous regulations)
The issue is that people can access the plug and socket from inside the bathroom, there should be no socket in the bathroom. One option should be a unswitched fused connection unit with a switch outside the bathroom
One thing to bear in mind- the wiring regulations need to take account of the manufacturer instructions, do these allow install inside a bathroom
The issue is the switches and buttons on the appliance- are they safe to be in an open bathroom- heed should be given to the manufacturer.
Some landlords agree to ' ensure the appliance is in a locked cupboard away from persons using the bathroom' and then don't bother.baldly going on...0 -
Thank you all! I love the washing machine in the bathroom debate as it always brings in a lot of comments
So bottom line: if there is a fused box wired to the washing machine it's OK.
I'll get that installed for him. I moved the washing machine to a cupboard next to a bathroom in my own house, and NOT in the bathroom. Too many debates and arguments for me to bother trying to figure out how to put it in the bathroom at the time. That's why I was immediately taken aback when I saw that installation in the house we visited as I had read a bit on the subject at the time.0
