Regular orders on prepayment

Options
I'm potentially in dispute with a retailer with whom I had a regular order, funded by a prepayment account. In the dim & distant past, they operated using a deposit account, more recently they've moved to a DD-based system - but ultimately the orders sent out were funded in advance, and there was never any credit involved.

The regular order has been cancelled, and they're now asking for payment for an order that was sent out a month or so prior but payment apparently not taken. The amount is below £30.

I'm asking them to itemise what has & hasn't been paid for, but.... my understanding is that credit files don't cover this sort of thing where there's no "lending" involved. Naturally it's not worth risking a credit blackmark over something so minor, but given the prepayment basis I suspect this is paranoia on my part.

Without naming the company, it's in a similar vein to regular orders of DVDs on home delivery, albeit in this case personalised products.

Sorry that wasn't clear. I'm trying to establish if this is the sort of "missed payment" that could end up on credit files.
I suspect, being prepayment, not, but I'll naturally handle the dispute slightly differently if it is.
  • Usually no.

It would help if we knew who the supplier was to check their T's and C's

That's perfect - I'm deliberately not naming them here just on the off-chance they pick up the thread (doubt it, but no point risking!!). I've trawled their T&Cs and there's even a clause in there to the effect of "no payment or balance, no order sent out" which is probably as much confirmation as I need!

    Thanks for the reply Gary.

As there's (presumably) no credit agreement between you and the seller then I would say that the risk of getting a marker on your credit file is remote. That said they could still pursue you for non-payment of goods through small claims courts if you've received goods you haven't paid for, so I'd do what you can to get this sorted ASAP.

    I reckon it's for adult material :)

Absolutely agreed with this, but thanks for pointing it out.

And no, it's not adult material. Hopefully once this is resolved in a few weeks, I'll happily name the company concerned.. I'd just rather not at the moment, on the remote off-chance it ends up going further.

For the benefit of the archive, this has now been resolved and the company was Royal Mail Collectibles.

From my side I'm none too impressed with their admin, but they have confirmed the "debt" has been cleared and my account is clear.

The tone of their letters & emails very much had the feel of private parking firms in trying to scare me into paying, but with a few bits just not adding up.

Anyway, all's well that ends well and thanks for the advice.
