Advice - Changing Gas Fire to Real One

We are going to be redecorating our lounge and want to replace our gas fire, which is a bit old fashioned looking now. We were originally going to replace it with another gas fire but now we've decided to have a real one instead. At the moment the gas fire is just stuck on the wall and we have no surround, just a brick hearth, tiled on top (hope this makes sense!).

Do we need to get a professional in to remove the gas fire? What is the best thing to do with it then as it is still in good working order?

Anybody dealing with gas should be CORGI registered so, yes get a professional in and ask to see their credentials before they start.

As for having a 'real' fire fitted you need to get your flu and / or chimney checked and any necessary alterations made.
